The Release Train Engineer (RTE) will act as a servant leader and drive relentless improvement in an agile software development environment. The RTE will creatively promote and lead an open, transparent, and respectful team environment, and apply knowledge of agile and scrum to help teams on their journey to continuous improvement.
The RTE will ensure clear communication in coaching and guiding scrum masters, developers, testers, architects, product owners, product managers, and others on the team. The RTE will remove impediments and help the Agile Release Train (ART) towards success in meeting its PI objectives. The RTE should have a thorough understanding of Agile frameworks and will be able to use the appropriate Agile methodology (Scrum/Kanban/SAFe) to facilitate the ART level activities. The RTE communicates with stakeholders, escalates impediments, helps manage risk, and drives program-level continuous improvement. In an exciting, and fast-paced environment, the RTE will leverage all of their knowledge of agile and scrum, along with leadership and team-building skills, to create high-performing teams on a mission to serve our members.
Responsibilities
Servant leader and communicator with strong interpersonal skills who can facilitate effective discussions of any size across all levels of the organization in a remote and hybrid environment
Manage a group of Scrum Masters and other Agile practitioners in order to achieve high levels of agility, productivity, and innovation within teams
Provide Agile practitioners with the skills, knowledge, and support needed to perform their jobs, and ensure established Agile practices are understood and being followed
Escalate and track impediments and work to resolve escalated issues
Ensure Agile practitioners are tracking and reporting on goals, features and capabilities
Understand the difference between being Agile and doing Agile
Demonstrate the comprehension of a Lean-Agile mindset, exhibits those behaviors and practices with the ability to develop others in this area
Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets; foster continuous improvement as a proven leader
Assist the business with economic decision making by facilitating Feature estimation and prioritization
Persuade by influence rather than authority
Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART, facilitate ART level events (including I&A, PI Planning, ART Syncs), and help manage risks and dependencies
Produce and present ART level metrics to help the ARTs improve and drive value delivery
Support Product Management to manage and prioritize the ART Backlog, generate a Vision, and build a Roadmap
Encourage collaboration between teams and System Architects
Partner with RTE Community of Practice and the Lean-Agile Center of Excellence to improve technical and Quality
Required Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of recent hands-on experience as a successful Scrum Master or Release Train Engineer (RTE)
Strong technical aptitude and experience leading teams in delivering quality software
2+ years of experience working in an Agile organization using Scrum, XP, Kanban, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), or other scaling model
2+ years of experience applying Lean Thinking and Systems Thinking in large organizations
Solid problem solving and influencing skills
Excellent communication and facilitation skills
Ability to drive continuous improvement though the utilization of metrics and retrospectives
SAFe certifications (i.e., SPC, RTE, SA, SM, PO/PM)
Experience applying Lean Thinking and Systems Thinking in large organizations
Experience with Lean Portfolio Management facilitation for program, portfolio, or executive-level
Experience working in an Agile organization using Scrum, XP, Kanban, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), or other scaling model
Proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Teams, MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Apptio TargetProcess
The full salary range for this position is $96,000 -$164,500. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for incentive plan compensation in addition to base salary.
