To arrange for the release of imported or exported merchandise from customs custody and complete the preparation of the cf7501 entry summary utilizing online applications including customer product databases and customer profile databases as well as manual preparation ensuring compliance with customs regulations and admissibility. Receive, store, ship and/or pick merchandise at the distribution facility including accurately sorting, counting, locating, and handling shipments.
Analyzes import and export documentation to determine admissibility, arrange for the type of release required by customs and submits appropriate documents as required by customs. In addition, submits required information to all other government agencies.
Contacts carriers, customers, U.S. Customs and border patrol (CBP) and other parties to facilitate the release of imported merchandise. In addition, handles inquiries from these parties regarding the clearance status of the imported merchandise.
Analyzes documentation provided to determine the harmonized tariff number and whether the shipment qualifies for special tariff treatment, NAFTA, or reduced duty rates and ensures all government agency regulations are followed. Also ensures that the required information is submitted or transmitted electronically. Determines the proper entered value, in addition to, the responsible customer for our services and fees to be billed.
Contacts customers to resolve questions regarding proper tariff classification, other government agency requirements, NAFTA and other special programs applicability, or entered value calculation. Compiles a daily and weekly report of activities and statistical information required for a company wide quality measurement report. Load/unload floor loads or palletized freight on and off trucks.
Operate forklift and pallet jacks. Receive inventories by SKU # or stage cartons/pallets for staging or processing in facility. Pick and pack individual units from master cartons, proper repack to ensure cargo is not damaged.
Handle and sort returns or inbound freight logging or input in wms system. Remove selected cartons from shipments for CBP examinations and/or distribution/re-forwarding. Accurately process small parcel machines or log sheets or inventory counts when requested.
Handle small parcel shipping. Locate and retrieve company correspondence when requested. Operate equipment in facility with safety first.
High school diploma/GED. A working knowledge of cbp regulations regarding merchandise admissibility, marking requirements, and other government agency requirements preferred.
Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions. Ability to communicate effectively with customers. Good mathematical skills.
Must be able to use an alpha and numeric keyboard proficiently. One (1) year experience in classification or related activities desired, with a high level of performance. Excellent organizational skills for freight compliance.
Ability to operate forklift and pallet jack equipment. Ability to use good safety judgment. Ability to lift 30 lbs regularly and more with appropriate assistance.
Ability to work within a schedule and prioritize work to meet deadlines. A self-starter and detail oriented.
