Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Reimbursement Officer I for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin, Illinois to perform professional duties in implementing the Individual Reimbursement for Care Program. Interviews parents, responsible relatives, guardians and attorneys of admitted patients to ascertain financial circumstances and ability to pay for patient care. Evaluates financial information an applies agency guidelines in determining liability and charges for patient care. Monitors scheduled reimbursement payments from responsible individuals and agencies. Monitors scheduled reimbursement payments from responsible individuals and agencies. Serves as designated lead worker.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs professional duties in implementing the Individual Reimbursement for Care Program.

  • Monitors scheduled reimbursement payments from responsible individuals and agencies.

  • Maintains reimbursement files and coordinates aspects of reimbursement services with other facility offices and community care programs.

  • Serves as designated lead worker.

  • Processes applications for public and private sources of funding for patient care, such as for Social Security Benefits, Public Aid insurance coverage and pension funds.

  • Completes and files tax relief forms for eligible patients.

  • Prepares receipts for checks and monies received for patients accounts and maintains financial records for patients.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in accounting or business administration, preferably including courses in insurance, estate and probate law.

  • Requires one (1) year of work experience in the reimbursement field.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.

  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
