Job Summary: This position is responsible for performing routine exercises or follow-up of functional activities (direct patient care) under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist or therapy assistant.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assists therapists and nursing staff with direct patient care as needed by turning, positioning, transferring or ambulating patients. Maintains the safety of patients who have been identified at risk for injury by implementing safety interventions or using appropriate ambulatory assistive devices.

  • Sets up appropriate equipment as directed for therapy treatment session; wipes down all surfaces with appropriate antibacterial solution. Puts away all supplies at the end of session. Is available on pager to all therapists, therapy assistants and nursing staff to provide necessary equipment at bedside as requested.

  • Performs regular sweeps of all patient areas to locate ambulatory assistive devices and returns them to their proper location.

  • Performs routine clerical and administrative tasks as directed, including using the computer, copier, fax machine and telephone.

  • Orders Durable Medical Equipment from vendors.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.

  • 0-1 years related work experience required.

  • New hires will have 60 days to provide BLS certification. Certification has to be with the American Heart Association (AHA).

  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures and by identifying opportunities for process improvements.

  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

  • Knowledge:
    Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.

  • Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.

  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Very Heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force continually. Employee is physically active in all elements of the job.

VIEW JOBS 10/16/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-14T00:00 The Metro Boston Mental Health Units at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital are seeking an Inpatient Social Worker. The inpatient clinical social worker functions on an assigned facility unit. Determines client's emotional, social and environmental needs by performing psychosocial assessments; plans dispositions for patients in conjunction with the treatment team and the patient's family; provides counseling to patients and consultation to their families; and maintains liaison relationships with various public and private agencies who serve seriously mentally ill individuals in the community. Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive): * To provide concise and diagnostically accurate psychosocial evaluations for seriously mentally ill patients as per CMS regulations and TJC standards. * Develop and coordinate disposition plans in conjunction with the treatment team, taking into account developmental, racial, cultural and ethnic, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity issues that impact a patient's aftercare needs. * Provide time-sensitive, focused treatment for seriously mentally ill patients through individual, family and group counseling. * To provide consultation and education to patients' families, as appropriate, in order to enhance the patient's return to the community. * Completes documentation in accordance with CMS, MBMHU and LSH policy. * To participate in regularly scheduled morning rounds, team meetings, case conferences, and social service meetings; and to attend conferences as needed in the community regarding patients. * Facilitate patient discharge and schedule community support services prior to discharge. * Represents the Department of Social Work within multidisciplinary team, attend unit leadership meetings, social service rounds, clinical management and other meetings as signed. * Coordinate and facilitate periodic reviews in an efficient and timely fashion. * Participates in Social Work Department performance improvement projects * Maintains communication with community providers in the continuum of care as per TJC standards. * To perform additional duties as assigned PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Knowledge of human growth and development across the lifespan. * Knowledge of the social, emotional, and experiential causes of social and psychiatric disorders. * Knowledge of the principals and practices of psychosocial evaluation and diagnosis, which include knowledge of applicable interviewing techniques for individuals and their families. * Knowledge of community resources and how to access them for patient treatment, disposition planning, and patient follow-up. * Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with others, and to establish rapport and interact with people who are under stress and to handle stressful and emergent situations. * Knowledge of the terminology used specifically in an inpatient setting. * Ability to establish and sustain therapeutic relationships. * Ability to interpret and coordinate treatment plans among a variety of human service personnel and delivery systems. * Knowledge and experience of inpatient mental health treatment and services. * Knowledge and understanding of Federal, State and local public entitlement programs and Medicare/Medicaid. * Familiarity and comfort working with multidisciplinary teams to analyze complex problems, build consensus and implement organizational improvements. * Knowledge of and experience applying Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services (CMS) and The Joint Commission (TJC) regulations and standards. * Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency. A variety of treatment modalities are used, including psychopharmacologic, psychotherapeutic (individual, group and family), psycho-educational, behavioral, cognitive and milieu therapies.
