The Division of Drugs, Devices and Cosmetics (DDC) regulates under provisions of the Florida Drug and Cosmetic Act (Chapter 499, F.S.) by licensing, registering, inspecting, and investigating the manufacturing, distributing, and sale of drugs, medical gases, and cosmetics in the State of Florida. The Program carries out its responsibilities through three bureaus: Compliance & Enforcement, Licensing, and Legal.

The Work You Will Do:

The dynamic individual interested in joining a dynamic team must be a highly motivated individual with excellent technical skills to review, evaluate, and process complex initial and renewal applications from persons seeking licensure under the Florida Drug and Cosmetic Act. The incumbent in this position is required to understand and interpret statutes, rules, and regulations. Detailed research is required to respond to inquiries from individuals or groups concerning applications, licenses, regulations, and licensure status. Must be able to independently exercise professional judgment when providing licensure and regulatory information to licensees, applicants, and consumers. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a career service, position assigned to the Tallahassee Headquarters Office. The selected applicant:

  • The incumbent in this position performs professional work handling complex regulatory activities of the Drugs, Devices, & Cosmetic Division.

  • Reviews, evaluates, and processes Chapter 499, Florida Statutes applications and recommends approval or denial of applications from persons applying for initial licensure and renewal of a permit for a permitted establishment under the Florida Drug and Cosmetic Act. This involves reviewing and analyzing the application, laws, rules, correspondence, reports, etc. to arrive at a recommendation for permitting.

  • Reviews fingerprint cards, criminal background history, and eligibility to sit for certification exams.

  • Requesting field inspections.

  • Completing license verfications, assigning permit fees, identifying overpayments for refund.

  • Communicates daily with the public, department officials, other state agencies, and the private sector, both verbally and in writing, regarding permitting requirements and authorized activity under the Florida Drug and Cosmetic Act.

  • Maintains a tracking system of the activity for all applications pending a decison.

  • Accurately enters all required data into the licensing and imaging system.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and back up comparable positions in the Drugs, Devices, & Cosmetic Program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Florida Statutes and Board and Department rules governing licensure of professionals in Florida;

  • Knowledge of method of data collection;

  • Ability to understand and apply applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures;

  • Ability to work independently;

  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments;

  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;

  • Possess good computer skills;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of customer service experience.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience processing business license/permit applications.
