The Prosecution Services Unit (PSU) is responsible for providing legal services in the regulation of all health-care boards and councils. PSU takes administrative action against healthcare practitioners for violations of the licensee's practice act.

The incumbent in this position provides administrative legal support to two or more attorneys. While the incumbent's responsibilities will include routine matters, a substantial portion of the incumbent's time will involve the exercise of independent judgment, time management, and initiative in the completion of a variety tasks and preparation and finalization of work product under the oversight of assigned attorneys.

Prepares materials for health care disciplinary cases for presentation before probable cause panels, for formal litigation before the Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH), and for final disposition before Boards and Councils. Maintains electronic case files per established file maintenance protocol.

Ensures electronic files are complete and contain all appropriate records and documents pertaining to cases. Activity logs are complete and contain correct and current information.

Accurately and timely updates the computer case management system and the electronic case file repository as action occurs in the responsible attorney's assigned cases. Performs a monthly inventory review of all cases assigned to the incumbent's attorneys, making necessary changes and updates to the computer case management system, and provides a current caseload report to assigned attorneys after each inventory review.

Communicates telephonically and in writing with the Respondent, Respondent's counsel, witnesses, complainants, expert witnesses, Department employees, and the general public. Drafts, edits, and prepares routine correspondence based on preapproved document templates.

Receives, calendars, and processes all notices of proceedings before the Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH). Responsible for scheduling court reporters, witnesses and locations for all depositions and formal hearings for assigned attorneys. Ensures appropriate purchase orders are requested prior to services rendered.

Schedules and coordinates witness conferences, and pre-trial meetings for assigned attorneys. Prepares notices, motions, subpoenas, and pleadings for attorney review and signature; and files documents at DOAH. Prepares exhibits, including redacting of confidential information, and prepares notebooks for trials or hearings. Works with assigned attorneys to ensure deadlines are met.

Responsible for arranging travel and preparing travel authorizations and travel reimbursements for assigned attorneys according to Department policies and procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position: Sound writing and organizational skills; knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage; and sound reading comprehension.

Computer skills and MS Office computer literacy are required. Ability to plan, manage, and organize work priorities, multitask, and ensure proper completion of work assignments in a timely manner, and manage time. Ability to learn to use a case tracking system and applications required to perform daily work functions.

Knowledge of the techniques for handling complaints and dealing with the public. Ability to compile, organize and analyze data and create reports. Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision.

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
