Regulatory Specialist

Provide regulatory support to internal and external customers in order to ensure that all local, federal and global regulatory requirements and compliance are fulfilled, according to legal requirements and corporate guidelines.

Core Responsibilities

Regulatory Support

  • Provide internal customers with consistent and compliant formula reviews and documentation in an expeditious timeframe to meet global commercial, creation and research initiatives

  • Provide sales support in commercializing assigned products

  • Identify issues relevant to commercial opportunities

  • Interact with commercial teams as guided to provide regulatory support

  • Assist regulatory managers as assigned

Processes and Systems Management

  • Develop and implement routine processes

  • Maintain and manage request logs

Customer Support

  • Generate customer documents

  • Identify issues relevant to customer opportunities

  • Develop relationship with assigned customer contacts

  • Obtain thorough knowledge of assigned customer requirements

  • Deliver support on time, meeting customer expectations

People Management

  • Provide supervision to Jr. Specialists

  • Train junior department staff members

Academic Background

  • University / Bachelor's Degree in food, biological or physical sciences

Professional Experience

  • 1-2 years of related regulatory experience

Technical Skills

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communications skills (both written and verbal)

  • Good knowledge of food product development and processes

  • Strong PC skills, including competency in MS Office products

  • Working knowledge of industry and regulatory requirements

  • Basic understanding of components of appropriate business processes and internal systems

  • Basic knowledge of regulatory systems

The Regulatory Risk, Compliance and ERM Specialist's primary responsibility is supporting the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring and enhancement of complex Risk and Compliance initiatives, programs and frameworks for First Financial Bank. Partners with the Risk and Compliance Design Director and ERM Director to execute regulatory risk and ERM initiatives including Regulatory Change Management, Remediation and Issues Tracking, Risk and Control Assessments, and execution of complex regulatory relations; including in-depth regulatory exams, ongoing monitoring and ad hoc requests. Promotes strong coordination across the organization, working closely with first and second line leaders to ensure consistent, insightful, and clear communications to regulators, senior management and Board of Directors. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: * Supports and coordinates Regulatory Change management activities. Includes working with Key Risk Partners and Lines of Business to track, monitor, communicate, lead and implement accurate and timely regulatory and state law changes for the bank. * Acts as liaison between the Bank and its regulators and serves as central point of contact for regulatory risk related affairs. Participates in regulatory meetings as appropriate. * Manages proactive fulfillment of formal and ad hoc information requests related to regulatory examinations and continuous monitoring, i.e. project management of exams and monitoring. Ensures logistical needs are met and escalates issues to management when necessary. * Supports and coordinates the development of appropriate responses and remediation plans when regulatory issues are identified; delivers formal and follow-up management responses to regulators. * Manages issue tracking, capturing issues from many different sources including regulators, legal, compliance, audit, or individual business lines to help measure the impact of risk, to ensure issues are remediated in a timely manner, and to identify systemic problems or concerns. * Coordinates the compilation and distribution of quarterly ERM reporting to the Enterprise Risk Management Committee; attends meeting and records minutes. * Facilitates the initial project review process and acts as liaison between Risk and the Project Management Office to communicate inquiries, feedback and review determinations. * Supports the enhancement of the Enterprise Risk Management framework in defining the organizational structures and tools applied to identify, analyze, evaluate, manage and monitor key risks. * Assist first and second line partners in designing risk and compliance programs. This includes working closely with Chief Compliance Officer and associates to implement the bank's Compliance Management System and Program. Also, includes working with the first line to perform Risk Based Process Mapping and Risk and Control Matrices which will support the development of appropriate risk mitigation activities. * Reviews and writes related programs, policies and procedures. * Coordinates special projects and performs additional duties as assigned. Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed to Perform Essential Functions of the Job: * Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience * Five years of risk & compliance and/or bank operational experience * Awareness of general concepts/disciplines of banking risk management (credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk, operational risk, strategic risk, information technology risk, and/or capital markets and finance) * Excellent verbal, written, problem solving, organizational and time management skills. * Must possess strong interpersonal skills * Must be able to effectively communicate with varied business stakeholders and leadership * Ability to multi-task * Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively * Ability to identify process improvements and provide alternatives for consideration * Proficient in MS Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Degree of Independence and Decision-Making: * Must be independent and capable of independent decision making while demonstrating ability to exercise good judgment in assessing the significance and relevance of identified risks and timely escalation to management.
