Job Summary:

Effectively performs activities to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Researches compliance issues and recommends changes that assure compliance with state and federal regulations and laws. Develops and/or revises policies and procedures to meet changing laws and regulations.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Business, Health Information Management, or related field plus four (4) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: N/A

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of applicable federal and state law, healthcare regulations, and accreditation standards. Ability to interpret regulatory rules and rule changes. Verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills. Analytical skills. Skills in the use of personal computers and related software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains knowledge and understanding of existing and emerging legislation, regulations, standards, processes and procedures.

  • Interprets regulatory rules or rule changes and ensures that they are communicated through institutional policies and procedures.

  • Develops and coordinates staff training on topics related to regulatory compliance and fraud, waste and abuse.

  • Updates policies, procedures, and processes to comply with federal, state and local laws and regulations.

  • Educates appropriate units on any changes in standards and regulations related to the functions of that area.

  • Responsible for researching and responding to questions regarding federal, state and local laws and regulations.

  • Assists with the development of standard operating procedures or other documents as needed.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Requires occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, constant sitting, occasional standing, occasional twisting, and occasional walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
