Essential Functions

  • Review labels with a high level of detail.

  • Creates specifications for compliance testing for many different types of consumer packaged goods.

  • Creates specifications for finished good compliance.

  • Perform scientific, regulatory, and technical research on dietary supplements, cosmetics, food, and manufacturing processes.

  • Reviews scientific publications for information on new and existing ingredients.

  • Research and implement procedures based on various regulatory recommendations.

  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and switch between all at a moment's notice.

  • Must have a positive, professional attitude and demeanor, and assist in improving internal processes.

  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills.

  • Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.

Additional Responsibilities

  • May be required to cross train and demonstrate competency on all essential job functions within the department.

  • Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs, and activities.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in a scientific or technical field from a four-year college or university.

  • Ability to read and interpret scientific and technical journals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to respond to common scientific and regulatory inquiries and to effectively present information to the department.

  • Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing and spreadsheets.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

  • Ability to calculate product and chemical compositions and percentages.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Must be detailed oriented.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

  • Employee must exert up to 30 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

The Medical Lab Scientist - ASCP organizes and performs the daily activities of his or her assigned sections. The section(s) may be Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology, Microbiology or Immunology. The MLS ensures that performing the daily activities and the validity of test results and quality control are completed for the specific section to which he/she is assigned. EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: * Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or related sciences including a practical training program. Associates degree is acceptable. HHS/HEW must have appropriate years of experience. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: * Nationally recognized certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS or MLT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent.
