In addition to maintaining a closely integrated alliance with The George Washington University and The George Washington University Hospital (GWUH), separately owned and operated by Universal Health Services (UHS), the GW MFA has active referring relationships with 12 area hospitals.

The GW MFA's leading healthcare presence in the DC metro region is complemented by a network of community-based practices in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Given its geographic location in central NW Washington, DC, and proximity to more than 175 resident embassies, the MFA continues to evolve its international clinical outreach.

Position Summary

Performs skilled and specialized technical procedures requiring the application of high-frequency ultrasound waves and plethysmography.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs routine and emergency Duplex ultrasound and peripheral arterial/venous testing as requested by physician, and in accordance with standard practices.

  • Performs routine and complex ambulatory monitoring studies as requested by physician and in accordance with standard practices.

  • Performs routine and emergency non-invasive vascular procedures; uses the aseptic technique.

  • Operates equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and to obtain optimal diagnostic recordings; utilizes ancillary devices such as selected transducers, audio- and video-recorders, computer systems, etc.

  • Analyzes patient medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures.

  • Prepares patient records for review and interpretation by physician, including the selection, recording, cross-referencing of significant or representative studies.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patients, employees, and corporation-related activities.

  • Participates in quality improvement activities: evaluate procedure results for technical quality and accuracy; maintain appropriate logs, files, and records.

  • Maintains equipment in working order, making minor adjustments and repairs, performing routine cleaning and preventive maintenance; reports any equipment malfunction to department manager.

  • Maintains all necessary supplies (ordering and stocking).

  • Instructs students, nurses, or other allied health personnel as requested.

  • Review department performance in relation to established goals, implementing changes to effect continual improvement in services provided; and assure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Certification/Licensure

  • Must be a Registered Vascular Technologist.

Experience

  • Strong knowledge of vascular principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment involved in the performance of all the above-named procedures.

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience.

  • Strong knowledge and ability to instruct others in vascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology, especially with regard to the above-named procedures.

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in Doppler and color flow Doppler, AND 2 years of experience in other procedures (ABI, segmental pressures, segmental waveforms, transcutaneous oxygen measurements).

  • Assists provider with both thermal and chemical vein ablation procedures, as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Walk, stand, and reach outward on a constant basis in a clinical setting.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull over 100 lbs. as part of the role.

  • Regularly exposed to healthcare settings that may require personal protective equipment.

  • Requires manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine, and other equipment.
