Job duties:

The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing direct patient respiratory care treatments, and assisting in evaluating patients with respiratory illness. Include but not limited to: Respiratory therapy in various critical care units, general respiratory care, emergency room, ventilator management, CPAP/BIPAP, 02 Therapy, CPT, Aerosolized medications, CPR/code team, and computerized documentation.

Job Status:

Full Time, 36 hours per week
7:00pm-7:00am, every other weekend required

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of six (6) months of previous experience. Minimum of 1 year critical care preferred (may include clinical rotation experience if new grad.
  • ABG experience highly desirable.

Education Requirements:

  • Associates degree in respiratory therapy or closely related field is required with active coursework in a bachelor's degree program, and a designated completion date. Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy or closely related field preferred. Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Therapy

  • Must have current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS). Must obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year of hire date and remain current during employment.


  • Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is required. Must be licensed by the Maryland State Board of Physician Quality Assurance.

The RRT assesses patient who require respiratory care by interview, physical examination of the chest and review of the patient's chart and chest x-rays. The RRT provides respiratory care by administration of medicated aerosol treatments, IPPB, ultrasonic nebulization, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry, humidification, and oxygen therapy. This health care professional also: maintains mechanical ventilators and makes appropriate ventilator setting changes after consultation with the physician; evaluates patients for weaning from mechanical ventilation; participates in CPR; obtains and analyzes arterial blood gas samples; participates in multidisciplinary care planning; and recommends various modes of therapy to physicians.
