The Registered Respiratory Therapist's responsibilities include:

  • Assess, plan, evaluate and provide quality respiratory care to patients in the hospital.

  • Perform all aspects and treatment modalities as outlined by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

  • Operate blood gas analyzer, performing QC and daily maintenance; maintain QC and maintenance logs; analyze blood gas samples, and other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Manager or Director.

  • All areas of treatment for which they have been deemed and documented to be competent to perform patient care, including but not limited to ED, ICU, NICU, etc.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (RRT) and licensed to practice in the state of Texas as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).

  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS, ACLS issued by the American Heart Association required.

  • Current NRP required.

  • Associate's Degree required.

VIEW JOBS 3/19/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-06-17T00:00 Job Purpose: Accurately delivers prescribed ionizing therapeutic radiation under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist using a variety of complex techniques and equipment. Shares and coordinates key information, through electronic documentation (EMR system) and oral communication, with other members of the healthcare team. Minimum Requirements: Education & Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy or Certificate in Radiation Therapy from an accredited program. Required Licenses/Certifications: Must be licensed with the ARRT and the State of Texas. CPR Certification. Work Experience:2+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred. Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Lifts up to 20 lbs., walks, stands may climb stairs. with some reaching, handling, and fingering to operate office machines. Special Requirements: Verbal and writing ability required to communicate effectively in informing employees of activities and policies. Numerical ability required. Ability to receive, comprehend, and carry out instructions; ability to work safely with equipment, supplies, and materials; ability to comply with attendance requirements; ability to comply with Human Resource policies. Essential Job Responsibilities: * Implements treatment prescription and treatment plan as directed by the Radiation Oncologist. * Reviews EMR system (i.e., ARIA) for correct patient identification, prescription, treatment parameters, and treatment plan before commencing patient treatment. * Prepares equipment such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices, and positions patient according to the prescription and plan of treatment. * Performs warm-up procedures for the linear accelerator and follows QA protocols & the CT simulator and follows QA protocols. * Performs daily radiation therapy treatments following center policies and procedures and imaging using OBI (KV and MV imagers). * Observes and reassures patients during treatment and reports unusual reactions to the Radiation Oncologist. * Performs charge capture of daily treatments and reviews daily treatment activity capture in the EMR system (i.e., ARIA). * Assists the RSD/Lead Therapist with therapist weekly initial chart checks on all new patients or new treatment fields prior to treatment. * Performs CT simulations consistent with policies and procedures. * Follows internal policies and procedures related to QA, radiation safety, and Quality Management Program (QMP). * Adheres to state radiation safety regulations. * Follows center's policies and procedures required to (a) meet AAPM/ACR/ACRO standards for accreditation, (b) comply with HIPAA and OSHA requirements, and (c) follow federal and state regulations governing the administration of radiation. * Actively participates in continuous improvement process and risk reduction program. * Actively identifies unintended deviations (mistakes, errors, events, violations) in the treatment process. * Assists the RSD/Lead Therapist in implementing corrective action plans associated with unintended deviations. * For bilingual speaking employees, acts as a translator to assist patients and others when needed. * Performs all other duties as assigned.
