General Summary Provides respiratory care relating to evaluation, treatment, teaching and support for a complex and varied group of Patients. Principal Duties and Responsibilities includes, but not limited to: 1.
Responds to cardiac and respiratory arrest according to Hospital policy. 2. Enters, maintains, and retrieves department computer information. 3. Answers questions and concerns regarding respiratory care issues from patients and families. 4.
Responsible for setup, monitoring, troubleshooting and systematic changes of all respiratory equipment. 5. Performs invasive/non-invasive ventilator management on age specific sub-acute, rehabilitative and chronic patients. 6. Assists in special procedures as requested by Director. 7.
Performs treatment medication preparation and administration and maintains accurate and current medication records. 8. Responsible for respiratory patient assessment, evaluation and treatment. 9. Collects and records all vital signs accurately. 10.
Makes respiratory therapeutic changes as determined by evaluation and treatment protocol and prescribed by a physician. 11. Performs and labels culture and specimen collections from all patients as needed. 12. Participates in orientation and training of entry personnel. 13.
Participates in departmental quality improvement activities. 14. Attends staff meetings. 15. Is assigned on-call by Director as needed. 16.
Is scheduled by Director according to Department needs. 17. Assists with lifting and moving patients and their equipment, weighing up to 200 pounds, using safe body mechanics. 18. Successfully completes Hospital and department specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements. 19.
Run Quality Control and blood gasses in the lab. 20. Manage airways including emergent and routine tracheostomy tube changes. 21. Transport patients to other Hospitals 22.
Other duties may be assigned as necessary to the operation of the department. Knowledge, Experience and Skills A high school diploma or its equivalent is required. Completion of a two-year certification and/or four-year respiratory care program is required.
Knowledge of medical terminology is required. Certification, Registration, or Licensure required by the Job Current Massachusetts respiratory care license. Current BCLS certification is required; PALS and NALS are recommended.
