General Summary Provides respiratory care relating to evaluation, treatment, teaching and support for a complex and varied group of Patients. Principal Duties and Responsibilities includes, but not limited to: 1.

Responds to cardiac and respiratory arrest according to Hospital policy. 2. Enters, maintains, and retrieves department computer information. 3. Answers questions and concerns regarding respiratory care issues from patients and families. 4.

Responsible for setup, monitoring, troubleshooting and systematic changes of all respiratory equipment. 5. Performs invasive/non-invasive ventilator management on age specific sub-acute, rehabilitative and chronic patients. 6. Assists in special procedures as requested by Director. 7.

Performs treatment medication preparation and administration and maintains accurate and current medication records. 8. Responsible for respiratory patient assessment, evaluation and treatment. 9. Collects and records all vital signs accurately. 10.

Makes respiratory therapeutic changes as determined by evaluation and treatment protocol and prescribed by a physician. 11. Performs and labels culture and specimen collections from all patients as needed. 12. Participates in orientation and training of entry personnel. 13.

Participates in departmental quality improvement activities. 14. Attends staff meetings. 15. Is assigned on-call by Director as needed. 16.

Is scheduled by Director according to Department needs. 17. Assists with lifting and moving patients and their equipment, weighing up to 200 pounds, using safe body mechanics. 18. Successfully completes Hospital and department specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements. 19.

Run Quality Control and blood gasses in the lab. 20. Manage airways including emergent and routine tracheostomy tube changes. 21. Transport patients to other Hospitals 22.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary to the operation of the department. Knowledge, Experience and Skills A high school diploma or its equivalent is required. Completion of a two-year certification and/or four-year respiratory care program is required.

Knowledge of medical terminology is required. Certification, Registration, or Licensure required by the Job Current Massachusetts respiratory care license. Current BCLS certification is required; PALS and NALS are recommended.

VIEW JOBS 6/20/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-09-18T00:00 SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing, the Director of Respiratory Therapy will support the hospital's mission, values and philosophy. The Director of Respiratory Therapy will lead the team to meet objectives of the program, recommend developmental goals for the department and identify areas of growth for the service. The director of the department will develop, maintain and periodically update departmental Policies and Procedures. The director will assess department performance and quality of service in relation to established goals, policies and procedures. The director will recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve the department and the services provided to patients and families. Provide guidance, leadership and structure to the Respiratory Therapy team. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES ( include the following, but not limited to the following) 1. Assures that all policies and procedures are carried out in accordance with professional standards of practice, accreditation standards, and license or regulatory requirements. 2. Prepares new policies/procedures with clinical supervisor and approves changes to policies and/or procedures 3. Develops departmental goals and objectives at least annually in conjunction with clinical supervisor. Reviews goals/objectives with staff quarterly. 4. Oversees equipment purchasing and rentals on evaluation of need. 5. Assures that patient equipment is checked by clinical engineering as required and in good working order. 6. Identifies program needs, program planning and prepares any new policies and procedures, with the assistance of clinical supervisor. 7. Ensures that regularly scheduled staff meetings occur. Provides input for agenda, and ensures that forum provides for all staff input. 8. Monitors therapists' productivity with clinical supervisor, reviews staff assignments to assure effective coverage of patients and completion of designated tasks. Assumes increased patient load when necessary. 9. Assures that patient records are current and in compliance with documentation standards 10. As an active planner of patient care, attends and participates in team meetings, family meetings, medical meetings and discharge planning meetings. 11. Directs the department's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QA/PI) activities. Provides input and review of PI initiatives and assures staff participation. 12. Attends and participates in assigned hospital, administrative and patient care committees and meetings in the absence of the clinical supervisor. 13. Answers questions/concerns regarding respiratory care issues from patients, families and other health care providers 14. Responsible for staff education in the set-up, monitoring, trouble shooting and change out of all respiratory equipment in partnership with the clinical supervisor SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Respiratory evaluation and treatment principles, procedures and precautions, protocols for head/brain injury, spinal cord injury, cardiac and pulmonary disorders requiring tracheotomy with or without ventilatory support. Knowledge of Respiratory equipment for pediatrics (0-21 years) population. Ability to teach patients and families. Ability to work as a member of a team. Ability to provide compassionate and quality care to all patients and families. Ability to independently organize/prioritize workload and in dealing with persons under stress. Ability to participate in physical activity at least 8 hours, and occasionally 12 hours per day. Education and Experience; BA degree in science or related experience Graduate of an AMA approved program in Respiratory Care. Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts .
