Registered Radiation Therapist

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Radiation Therapist to join our team in Winchester, Virginia. This role involves providing daily care to cancer patients, accurately interpreting and delivering radiation treatments as prescribed by the radiation oncologist. The ideal candidate will also perform simulations, assist in treatment planning, and provide clinical instruction for radiation therapy students.

Responsibilities:

• Patient Care & Treatment Delivery:
  • Review prescriptions, diagnoses, charts, and patient identification for each treatment.
  • Schedule patient appointments and provide pre-and-post treatment education.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and equipment according to prescriptions.
  • Ensure collaboration with physicists and dosimetrists at the start of each treatment.
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with patients during treatments to monitor for unusual reactions or events.
  • Reinforce physician recommendations concerning treatment reactions and care of radiated areas.
• Technical Duties:
  • Perform simulations and create immobilization devices for 2-D, 3-D, and IMRT patients.
  • Document set-up instructions and pertinent information for dosimetry calculations.
  • Check charges daily for accurate billing and document treatment doses accurately.
  • Ensure proper set-up in CT for IMRT and 3-D patients.
• Safety & Compliance:
  • Ensure radiation safety measures and protocols are observed at all times.
  • Maintain patient markings according to physician direction.
  • Assist in emergency treatments when necessary.

Requirements:

• Education & Certification:
  • Completion of an accredited program in Radiation Therapy.
  • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved.
  • Registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Skills & Experience:
  • Ability to assist in treatment planning procedures including tumor localization and dosimetry.
  • Experience in triaging sick patients to nursing for evaluation.
  • Proficiency in performing daily quality assurance protocols.
