Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacist ensures pharmacy customers receive medications timely, accurately and efficiently, fills prescriptions accurately according to the Physicians orders, and maximizes customer/resident medication therapeutic efficacy while minimizing adverse events.
Key Tasks Include:
Fill and dispense all physician orders accurately and efficiently according to state and federal regulations
Prepares I.V. admixtures and extemporaneous parenteral products under aseptic technique
Enters all prescription orders into the computer system accurately
Supervises technicians and interns in prescription data entry, packing oral medications, labeling medications and assisting when necessary
Verifies all work performed by non-licensed personnel
Receives and fills orders for stock medications when technician or intern is not available
Answers drug related questions and concerns for personnel, nursing staff and residents and/or families in need of expertise
Assists Director with special projects as needed
Exhibits professionalism to staff and co-workers
Ensures medication safety with each new medication added to a resident/patient profile
Reports any adverse drug event or medication error
Must be a Registered Pharmacist in New York State
Prior experience in a long term care environment strongly preferred
Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (GCP) preferred
