This position provides Relationship Based Care for patients/families with acute and chronic diseases, disorders found in the pediatric and adolescent into young adult populations. Utilizes enhanced specialty knowledge and skills to provide nursing excellence to patients within designated patient care area(s). Utilizes the nursing process and performs responsibilities in five areas of nursing practice: clinician, clinical inquiry, teacher, professional development and leadership.

Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and adult patients in regard to their growth and development process. Actively supports the Hospital and department's quality goals and service excellence principles.

1.Performs nursing assessments utilizing a variety of assessment methods and/or area-specific tools. 2. Develops or individualizes existing plans of care and develops goals relative to family needs. Evaluates and documents changes to the plan. 3. Develops or individualizes teaching plans/protocols to meet patient and family learning needs. Identifies patient preferences and needs including motivation to learn. Evaluates and documents changes to the plan. 4. Performs nursing care according to procedures/protocols. Anticipates impending emergent situations and intervenes effectively. 5. Communicates with the family and members of the multidisciplinary team to identify health care needs. Communicates changes in patient status. Utilizes appropriate resources for referral or consultations. 6. Keeps up to date in nursing practice by utilizing current nursing and healthcare literature for information and problem solving. 7. Incorporates current hospital and departmental quality initiatives into daily activities. 8. Adheres to communication, service excellence and professional image standards that support the hospital mission and philosophy. 9. Works cooperatively as a team member to foster achievement of unit/hospital goals. 10. Identifies learning needs and seeks resources to advance nursing practice and achieve professional goals. 11. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others. 12. Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization if required as part of the responsibilities of the role.

1.Bachelors degree in nursing or higher required.2. At least 1 yr of RN experience required. Peds experience preferred 3. Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.4. Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association5. Ability to effectively communicate with patient/families, physicians and hospital staff.6. Special certifications may be required by department.

VIEW JOBS 2/24/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-05-24T00:00 Overview The Advance Practice Provider (APP) works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide individualized ICU care. The APP will facilitate this by functioning as the frontline provider on the ICU team, obtain history and physical assessments, order/interpret labs, perform bedside procedures, formulate diagnoses and treatment plan, and provide family education. Additional responsibilities include ventilator management, vasopressor titration, ECMO and CRRT management, post-operative care (examples-not limited to: airway reconstruction, kidney/liver/intestinal transplants, spinal fusions), and in-hospital care of chronically ventilated children. The APP will independently attend hospital-wide critical assessment team calls. Responsibilities 1. Provides expert clinical care, education, consultation, advocacy research, leadership and mentorship. 2. Manages primary, acute and chronic health problems through comprehensive history and physical examination assessment and diagnosis. This may include palliative and end of life care. 3. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures. 4. Orders and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, and performs other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status. 5. Promotes the advancement of the nursing profession at Lurie Children's and the community-at-large. This may include publication, participation in professional organizations and providing educational support to the nursing staff. 6. Collaborates and coordinates care with medical team to deliver evidenced-based care and establish best practices in clinical care. 7. Participates in research design, implementation and interpretation. 8. Meets the Medical Staffs Allied Health Practitioners core measures of performance related to patient care, medical knowledge, practice based learning and improvement, interpersonal communication skills, professionalism, and system based practice. 9. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others. 10. Day, night, and weekend hours. Holiday coverage also required Qualifications 1. Master's degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing appropriate for certification as a Nurse Practitioner. (CNS certification is not acceptable if hired after January 1, 2010) 2. 3 years of PICU RN experience required (APRN Candidates)3. Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification required (APRN Candidates) 4. Licensure in the State of Illinois as an APN is required. 5. Experience as delineated in clinical privileges through credentialing by the Medical Staff Office. 6. Basic Life Support certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required in some specialty areas. 7. Any other certification required for specialty area. 8.
