Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The RN Work Comp Navigator is responsible to facilitate the management of Workers' Compensation claims with specific emphasis on prompt medical treatment and timely return to work. This role performs ongoing case management coordination through the continuum of care.

Responsible for the clinical program components, provide expertise regarding clinical services needed with a focus on preventive and primary care; and provide disease case management where relevant. The nurse uses motivational interviewing techniques while lending support in the efforts in managing complex patients. Patient population ranges from chronically ill to healthy individuals wanting to prevent disease.

The nurse works with the employee to develop a plan and facilitates employee's access to appropriate health care services and community resources. Employee self-management and increasing employee knowledge of their disease process are other foci for the nurse. The nurse is accountable for the management of employee's therapy enrolled in case management.

The nurse supports the physician's practice by following physician protocol to manage employee's therapy, related education, triage and coordination of care and referrals when appropriate. In addition to working with the employees and their personal care providers, the nurse interacts regularly with physicians and personnel from within the Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS) and outside the system to coordinate care of patients. Position involves extensive phone contact with occasional client facing opportunities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Preferred/Optional: Bachelor's degree in nursing.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required: Three years' experience in occupational health related position.

Working knowledge of safety and safety related programs, regulatory agencies such as Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), etc. and basic industrial hygiene principals. Experience in implementing workers compensation programs and experience utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred/Optional: Experience with employee health and safety for healthcare workers and use of Employee Health and Safety computer records system such as ReadySet.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or Nurse Compact License. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) certification obtained through the American Broad of Occupational Health Nurses. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
