Responsibilities

Work Schedule:10 hour shifts Monday-Friday 7:00am to 5:30pm, alternate work schedule 40 hrs. /week with flexibility to meet patient care needs which includes sharing time on call and coming in for emergent cases. Staff must live within a 30-minute response time.

RELOCATION INCENTIVE/RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE IS NOT AUTHORIZED

The RN is responsible for participating in a wide variety of specialized invasive cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, in the Cardiac Catheterization/Electrophysiology Lab, that assist in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Circulates, assists, and operates equipment for all of the various Cardiac Cath/TAVR/EP Lab procedures and Echo Lab procedures.
Monitors patients during Cardiac Cath/EP procedures, including continuous ECG and hemodynamic monitoring, identification of cardiac arrhythmias, response to medications, titration of vasoactive IV medications, and treatments.
Administers medications, including ACLS medications and anticoagulants, utilizing all safety precautions.
Participates and functions independently with Cardiac Cath/TAVR/EP projects and QA
Participates in case management of the Cath/EP Lab patient population i.e. ensures appropriate use of outpatient services, provides pre and post Cath/EP patient education, maintains Cath/EP data bases, establishes and maintains excellent relationships with referring physicians and their staff. VAPAHCS is a teaching hospital with an affiliation with the Stanford University School of Medicine which provides a rich academic environment including medical training for physicians in virtually all specialties and subspecialties. Our Health Care System operates over 800 beds, including three nursing homes and a 100-bed homeless domiciliary - all to serve more than 67,000 enrolled Veterans.

Qualifications


BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
United States Citizenship.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency, and accredited by the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) which changed to the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education at the time the program was completed; OR the completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005/27, Appendix G6). OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration (i.e., licensure) as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or the District of Columbia. Note: Provide your RN registered license number on your application.
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements, the following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience.

(1) years of full-time experience as a licensed professional Registered Nurse.
Current BLS provider card issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).
Two (2) years of RN experience in an inpatient or outpatient cardiology setting.
Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) provider card.
Demonstrated competence and excellence in advanced nursing skills, EKG monitoring skills, performance in emergency situations, patient teaching, and patient/family communication.
Cardiac Catheterization Lab experience strongly preferred.
ICU and Electrophysiology experience strongly preferred.
RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) certification strongly preferred. Physical

Requirements:
This position requires heavy lifting, 45 pounds heavy carrying, 45 pounds straight pulling (2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking & standing 8 hours - intermittently; repeated bending; both legs required; ability for rapid mental& muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aide permitted). Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
