Department: Urology

  • Conduct frequent patient assessments and provide close observation of patients in accordance with recognized standards of nursing practice and the prescribed medical plan of care.

  • Performs a wide range of complex nursing tasks for patients of all age groups, ranging from infant to geriatric. Utilizes appropriate interview skills to collect data, identify patient problems, and provide input to the patients plan of care.

  • Provides diagnostic support duties, to include vital signs, collecting specimens, calling for and recording lab results, and assisting the provider in a variety of examinations and procedures. Interprets findings and reports to the healthcare provider, those findings which indicate a detrimental variation in the progress of the patient.

  • Applies in-depth knowledge of professional nursing theories, principles, and procedures in planning, providing, administering, overseeing, and documenting professional patient care, in accordance with nursing standards of practice, licensed independent provider (LIP), and established policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Completion of the following:

  • Minimum of an Associates/Bachelors of Science in Nursing (ASN/BSN) from an American Education Services (AES) or National League for Nursing (NLN) accredited school of nursing.

Experience: Candidates must have the following experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in the last three (3) years in an Urology Clinical Setting.


-National Background Investigation

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work site

License/Certification and Training:

  • Current and Unrestricted Registered Nurse license to practice nursing in at least one of the 50 states of the United states, District of Columbia, or territory of Puerto Rico.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association


-8-12 hour shifts; varies(e.g. 7:00AM-7:00PM, 7:00PM-7:00AM, 11:00AM-7:00PM, 11:00PM-7:00AM, etc)
-Requires night, weekends and holidays

The PACT team is highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, and community based. The vast majority of service provision takes place in the community. The PACT Registered Nurse Supervisor will provide specialized nursing services which include nursing assessments, administering and monitoring of medication, care coordination and crisis intervention to clients with serious mental illness and/ or co-occurring disorders. The PACT Registered Nurse Supervisor is responsible for clients who may also have acute or chronic medical disorders, or be at risk for infection diseases such as hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, TB and STDs. Clients served by the nurse may require frequent monitoring of medication intake and bio-psychosocial functioning. This PACT Registered Nurse Supervisor may also serve as a liaison between clients and other community providers and assist in coordinating services as well as providing case management. This position also supervises two PACT Registered Nurse positions and is responsible for maintaining the PACT client medication room. What You Should Bring The idea candidate should have Good knowledge of nursing and clinic policies and procedures; good knowledge of approved medical terminology and abbreviations; good knowledge of the function, use, maintenance, and safety precautions of all equipment used; ability to clinically evaluate patients/clients before medicating; ability to monitor clients on a variety of medications; ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to provide nursing services to difficult and complex patient and client cases; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships between staff, hospital employees, administration, physicians, visitors and patients; ability to chart accurately, legibly, and completely all entries on medical records/controlled substance inventories. The Opportunity * Working in a highly collaborative supportive community based environment; * Supervises two PACT Registered Nurse positions; * Oversees operation of the medication room; * Coordinates care for clients needing treatment for chronic medical/psychological problems; * Assesses clients for current health status; * Refers clients with medical needs to an appropriate resource for care; * Performs treatment procedures for clients when feasible; * Develops and conducts approved health care training such as, but not limited to medication administration and annual medication refresher training; * Meets with staff to review client cases for medical implications when requesting treatment and/or aftercare; * Attends daily PACT meetings to discuss client cases; * Transports clients to medical and/or psychiatric appointments as needed; * Works in cooperation with medical supervisor overseeing client care; * Extends follow up or assistance to clients having difficulty obtaining needed health care; * Develops appropriate health care discharge plans for patients; * Other related duties as assigned. About the Department The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse disorders. Minimum & Additional Requirements Four-Year College Degree; two to three years of experience in providing nursing services to patients with psychiatric and substance abuse disorders; graduation from accredited school of nursing, Registered and licensed by the State Board of Nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of appointment; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in psychiatric nursing, public health nursing or related field of nursing, some experience in community mental health, professional nursing services in a substance abuse treatment or detoxification setting, some experience in psychiatric nursing, some experience in an opioid treatment program, and some experience in supervision of nurses; Valid driver's license; Bilingual in both English and Spanish.
