JOB SUMMARY

The RN Supervisor-Unit provides leadership and management for unit operations as well as clinical and financial performance, in collaboration with the staff and leadership. This individual plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates patient care activities and services to promote clinical excellence and program growth and development.

The RN Supervisor-Unit serves as a leader and role model for staff and is an active participant in organizational and nursing department decision-making. The skills and functions of the Supervisor are both managerial as well as clinical nursing practice based.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1.Collaborates with medical teams to organize activities to provide support delivery for direct and indirect patient care within the department.

2.Trouble-shoots problems in routine and emergency situation to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner.

3.Develops and implements standards of practice in patient care to ensure current research and evidence-based nursing practice are utilized.

4.Communicates and implements Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure policies and procedures are being met.

5.Interviews and hires new staff to meet business needs.

6.Coordinates programs for development and continuing education of staff to ensure validation of competencies and regulatory regulations meet standards.

7.Assists with performance reviews to encourage employee growth and provide recognition of staff to ensure a high level of motivation and staff engagement.

8.Develops and promotes a customer service with the goal to provide patients with an outstanding patient care experience.

9.Collaborates with managers to provide quality improvement by implementing tools and techniques to improve process work flow to ensure work assigned is completed and accurate.



  1. Communicates pertinent issues with the manager to resolve issues within the department.

  2. Develops collaborative relationships with patients/families, departments, and physicians to ensure needs are being met.

  3. Monitors staffing levels and productivity to ensure staffing levels meet patient and budgetary needs.

  4. Promotes established infection control techniques to prevent transmission of disease and ensure staff competency and compliance with infection control policies and practices.

  5. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.

  6. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: Diploma or associate degree in nursing.

Preferred/Optional: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required: Two years' experience in medical or nursing related field.

Demonstrated Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated leadership abilities. Written and verbal communication skills.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse license or Nurse Compact License. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday through Friday; start time 6:30 am variable hours, flexible and based on department needs

No call requirement

32-40 hours a week
