General Responsibilities:

  • Provides patient care utilizing the nursing process assessment, care planning, implementation and reassessment for identified patient population per the Colorado Nurse Practice Act.

  • Documents patient care administered.

  • Promotes interdisciplinary communication and care.

  • The delivery of care is based on the age, physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and learning needs of the individual patient.

  • Demonstrates basic and unit specific competencies.

  • Supervises contract RN's, MST, CST and ST.

  • Performs delegated duties consistent with the scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care at SRMC.

  • Supports and follows SRMC policy and procedures.

  • Displays positive support for the values and mission of Sky Ridge Medical Center. Position requires call.

License/certification

  • Compact RN license or Colorado RN license accepted upon hire, CO license required within 90 days of hire.
  • BLS required

Education

  • 2 year Associate Degree/Diploma (required)
  • 4 year Bachelor Degree (preferred)

Experience

  • 1 3 years Operating Room RN experience (required)

The Certified Surgical Technician is experienced in all aspects as aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases; pulling cases for the following day's cases; breaking down cases at the end of the procedure. He/she is knowledgeable regarding instrumentation, equipment and supply needs for all types of surgical procedures. The Certified Surgical Technician may act as a second circulator in the Operating Room and will function under the direction of the R.N. This role will entail duties for which he/she has demonstrated competency. The surgical technician may come in contact with medications and therefore must demonstrate understanding of proper medication management and storage as well as maintaining a secure medication environment the certified operating room technician performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan for SRMC. Follows and supports SRMC policy and procedures. The operating room technician displays positive support for the values and mission of SRMC. Provides education on procedures, instrumentation, and equipment. Demonstrates advanced resource skills for equipment and instruments. Assists coordinators in case preparation, equipment needs (operating and capital requests) and preference card accuracy. Lead preceptor skills. Ability to function and precept in a minimum of two specialties (Total Joints, and Complex Spine). Call is required for position. EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: * Graduation from an accredited program for Surgical Technician (required) LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: * Registration as a Surgical Technician by Colorado Division of Registration (DORA) (required) * American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (required) * Current certification as a surgical technologist; title granted upon successful completion of board exam is CST.
