Registered Nurse Simulation Assistant

$35.00 per hour.

STATUS:

Temporary from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025; part-time, up to 19 hours per week. This position works flexible hours based on student needs between Monday and Saturday. Non-benefit eligible. Grant funded, not eligible for layoff or recall.

SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating simulation education for the Practical Nursing (PN) and associate degree Registered Nursing (RN) students in partnership with Nursing Program Instructors for the FVCC nursing programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides instructional support and functions in a nursing simulation environment under the guidance of nursing faculty and lab coordinator.

  • Demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate instructional materials in assigned areas of nursing simulation in collaboration with nursing faculty and lab coordinator.

  • Assists with the preparation and assembly of educational aids.

  • Provides set-up and clean-up of simulation sessions along with instructors.

  • Maintains supply usage records and monitors equipment check-outs.

  • Troubleshoots equipment problems. Advises appropriate person in the case of malfunctioning equipment.

  • Maintains attendance records, utilization records, and statistics as directed.

  • Maintains simulation manikins in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

  • Provides information as needed to meet department guidelines.

  • Participates in professional development for personal and professional growth.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Reports to the Program Director, Nursing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing degree with three years of experience in nursing, AND
  • Current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the State of Montana, AND
  • Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed course work in curriculum development, principles and methods of teaching, and measurement and evaluation of learner outcomes.

  • Two years of teaching experience in a nursing program.

  • One year of experience working in a simulation/lab setting.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor certification.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES

  • Knowledge of basic nursing equipment and supplies used on the FVCC campus.

  • Ability to set up teaching materials for the multiple skill levels of the PN and RN simulation experiences.

  • Knowledge and understanding of multiple computer software applications, especially as related to simulation manikins.

  • Knowledge of the safe use and disposal of hazardous equipment and chemicals.

  • Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the community, health care partners, and students.

  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.

  • Ability to intermittently work non-traditional schedules including evenings, weekends, etc.

  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships.

  • Ability to follow and issue directions.

  • Demonstrated effective communication, presentation, customer service, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Ability to respond in the event of an emergency.

  • This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
