Registered Nurse- PACU

Reporting to the Director of Perioperative Services, this position assumes the accountability of all aspects of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and within the guidelines of the State of California Nurse Practice Act. Accountable for maintaining standards of nursing practice and optimal patient outcomes in the OR. Responsible for the supervision of all categories of nursing personnel.

Essential Job Duties:

Care provider must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient's age group. Care provider must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span; must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide the care needed by that patient population.

Displays the ability to document pertinent patient data, nursing interventions and patient responses.

Demonstrates the ability to perform rapid assessments differentiating between short and long-term needs.

Protects the rights of the patient, the paranesthesia nurse, and the facility by providing legal and ethical health care by ethical conduct and a clear understanding of legal guidelines.

Is competent to monitor the patient's hemodynamic state and interpret the results.

Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias.

Demonstrates the ability to provide appropriate patient/family teaching pre and post procedure.

Accurately utilizes consents and other forms.

Accurately identifies appropriate documentation necessary for the procedure, prior to procedure date/time (consent, H&P, orders, labs, etc.)

Follows the five rights of medication administration and maintains transcription accuracy.

Administers blood products per hospital policy.

Administers IV therapy per hospital policy.

Job Requirements

One (1) year experience in Ambulatory/PACU/ICU in an acute care setting.

Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse program.

Current California Registered Nurse License.

BLS certification.

ACLS certification.
