About the Job

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, provides direct patient care in accordance with Winchester Hospital's policies and procedures and the scope of practice for Registered Nurses in Massachusetts. Completes assessments, performs treatments, administers appropriate drug therapies, observes patient's progress, records responses/reactions to interventions, and evaluates therapies for clinical outcomes and effectiveness. Works collaboratively with the patient, the patient's family/significant others, and all members of the health care team to achieve the expected outcomes.

  • Assesses the patient using methods such as observation, interview, and review of clinical data.

  • Develops individualized plan of care including discharge plan based on assessment and in conjunction with physician orders to achieve desired outcomes. Evaluates and changes care plan as appropriate.

  • Implements plan of care.

  • Directs licensed and unlicensed personnel to implement plan of care.

  • Utilizes the results of evidence-based research to improve clinical outcomes.

  • Administers medications and performs treatments as ordered.

  • Provides patient/family education to affect desired clinical outcomes.

  • Observes and/or makes periodic rounds on assigned patients independently, with physicians, and other members of the health care team.

  • Reports pertinent patient assessment data, plan of care and response to all appropriate members of the health care team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Graduate of a state approved and/or accredited RN program required
  • BSN or obtain BSN within 5 years of hire required

Note: RNs that were hired prior to 10/1/13 that do not have a BSN are grandfathered.

  • BSN upon hire preferred

  • Work experience in unit specific specialty preferred.

  • Basic computer knowledge.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills required.

Scheduled Hours

Per diem as needed by department, various days between hours of 7:30 am - 5:00 pm.

Build meaningful relationship with patients and their family in an intimate outpatient setting. * A team that feels and functions like a family. Staff RNs are a central part of a small interdisciplinary team of clinicians. Work alongside and support technicians, other nurses, dietitians, social workers, physicians and the center manager. * Fun is one of our core values. Happier nurses = healthier patients. * Specialized, complex care. RNs deliver care to patients who are often dealing with multiple co-morbidities which require unique treatment plans and the ability to leverage a broad range of nursing skills and knowledge. * Fast paced. Our RNs oversee a group of patients (census dependent on state laws) with the support of PCTs to conduct patient observations, measuring stats and machine set up. You will work with your head, heart and hands each day. * Schedule. Shifts are typically 10-15 hours, 3-4 days per week. Schedule times will vary by locations but most of our RNs work early morning or days shifts.
