POSITION SUMMARY

The REGISTERED NURSE (RN) delivers care to residents ensuring all applicable laws, regulations and Company standards are met. Reports to Director of Nursing (DON).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing functions in the long-term care facility.

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

  • Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional personnel.

  • Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Nursing department.

  • Must understand and follow company policies, including harassment and complaint procedures.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

  • Must be able to knowledgeably and competently deliver basic nursing care to residents.

  • Must be able to evaluate resident's needs through ongoing assessment and revises care plan based on changes in resident's condition.

  • Must be able to provide clinical supervision to LPNs and CNAs.

  • Must be able to chart appropriately and timely.

  • Must practice dependable, regular attendance.

  • Must be able to concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment.

  • Must be able to communicate and function in an interdisciplinary team.

  • Must be able to Monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in residents' conditions.

  • Must be able to maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.

  • Must be able to interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess resident's condition.

  • Must be able to modify resident treatment plans as indicated by residents' responses and conditions.

  • Must be able to consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate resident care plans.

  • Must be able to monitor all aspects of resident care, including diet and physical activity.

  • Must be able to instruct individuals, families on topics such as health education, disease prevention, and develop health improvement programs.

  • Must be able to prepare residents for, and assist with, examinations and treatments.

  • Must be able to prepare rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensure that stock of supplies is maintained.

  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.

SKILLS and ABILITIES

Education : Associate's Degree (two year college or technical school)

Experience : Six months to one year related experience

Certificates and Licenses

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  • Must have valid license as Registered Nurse where the assigned facility is located.

Must have CPR certification upon hire or obtained during orientation. CPR certification must remain current during employment.

Responsible for the processes of assessment, reassessment, establishment of nursing diagnoses, formulation of the written plan of care, implementation of care, and evaluation of care. Initiates health care training and education to the patient/family as required while supporting and fostering the goals of Sovah Health-Martinsville and the Department of Nursing. Demonstrates awareness of ongoing needs of the unit and provides leadership and direction to other team members in maintaining optimal standards of nursing care. Accountable for the supervision of other licensed and non-licensed nursing personnel for assigned unit. Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including week-ends and holidays to insure continuity of care and appropriateness of nursing coverage to the patients of Sovah Health-Martinsville on all units. Responsible for providing care to all of the patient population with consideration to age –specificity and diagnosis. Education: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing or a Compact state. BLS certification – if not current, training required. Neonatal Resuscitation and Electronic Fetal Monitoring provider – if not current, will obtain within 6 months of hire date. STABLE course completion – if not current, will obtain within one year based on class availability. Experience: Previous experience in acute care hospital setting preferred. Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist, pharmacology exam, and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific unit. Skills: Requires ability to function in stressful situations. Verbal ability to present information and ideas related to nursing theory and practice. Ability to accept responsibility and accountability to prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care provided on assigned units as required with leadership qualities. Requires the cognitive ability and practical ability to provide nursing care appropriate to the patient population assigned, considering patient age, growth and development, and diagnosis with full implementation of the nursing process to include Assessment/Reassessment, Nursing Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation. Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients and/or equipment, manual and finger dexterity and eye hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive period of time. May require lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. May require frequent bending, squatting and kneeling. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
