Position Description:

The Cardiac Telemetry department supports an Acuity Adaptable Care Model that minimizes patient transfers whereby staff are trained and readily available to provide nursing care at the service level required: cardiac rhythm monitoring and medical-surgical. This department can provide care for up to 35 patients admitted for cardiac-related diagnoses that include: angina, Acute Coronary Syndrome, heart failure, dysrhythmias, permanent pacemaker pre/post implant or revision, post-uncomplicated diagnostic heart catheterizations with or without PCI, post-op cardiac surgery patients, etc. Other common diagnoses include: asthma, COPD, complex pneumonia, sepsis, cerebral vascular accident, acute dialysis.

This position is responsible for coordinating and providing patient care in a safe and effective manner. Additional responsibilities include directing unlicensed employee activity, synthesizing patient information, assessment of patients, planning of care/intervention, and teaching of patients/family, implementation of treatment plan/MD orders, documentation and evaluation. Integration of patient care standards is incorporated into all clinical activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Assesses health care needs. A data collection process that is systematic, includes psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and other factors and is on-going, determined by the patient's immediate condition or needs, and involves the patient, family, significant others, and health care providers when appropriate. Analyzes the assessment data in determining diagnosis and plan of care.

  • Develops and contributes to a written plan of care to meet patient's subtle as well as obvious nursing needs.

  • Implements the plan of care to attain expected outcomes.

  • Evaluates the patient's outcomes. Evaluation is systematic and on-going, is determined by the patient's responses to the interventions, which are documented in the medical record.

  • Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care as a professional work responsibility.

  • Identifies, develops and implements an action plan for self-development/professional growth

  • Identifies subtle as well as obvious patient problems and reports to an appropriate resource person.

  • Addresses the age specific needs of all populations served: adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

Experience

One year acute care/Telemetry experience required.

Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.

Education/License/Certifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher preferred

Current CA RN License

Current BLS from AHA

Current ACLS from AHA

Certification in specialty area preferred.

The Cardiovascular Registered Nurse, Clinical Level II is responsible for providing acute cardiovascular specialized patient care in a safe and effective manner from admission to discharge or inpatient transfer. Additional responsibilities include directing unlicensed staff, patient assessment, planning of care, post-procedure observation, non-invasive procedure interventions, patient/family teaching, and implementation of a treatment plan and physician orders, documentation and evaluation. Nursing care is delivered to a patient population ranging from adolescent through geriatric. The Circulating nurse in Cardiovascular Observation Unit (CVOU) is responsible for the care of patients undergoing procedures such as: Cardioversions, Tilt Table, TEE, EBUS, Bronchoscopies and Loop Recorder Insertions. Saddleback Medical Center is a STEMI, Stroke and Thrombectomy Capable Receiving Center. This Cardiac Recovery (CVOU) RN position includes care for the preoperative and postoperative patients in the following specialty areas: Invasive Cardiology, Interventional Radiology, Peripheral Vascular, Neurovascular Interventions and TAVR procedures. In addition, supports moderate sedation care provided for TEE, Cardioversions, Bronchopscopy and EBUS procedure patients.
