Position description

The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room circulates, coordinates the surgical team in all aspects of OR activities, providing for optimum perioperative nursing care to patients and functions as the patients' advocate.

Our state-of-the-art hospital in Jacksonville includes 25 operating rooms that include an IMRI OR suite and a dedicated endovascular OR suite. We use the best modern equipment and advanced technologies to create an environment that merges the art of healing with the science of medicine.

All associate degree registered nurses with a RN hire/transfer date after December 31, 2012, must complete their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within six (6) years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.

Qualifications

Graduate of accredited School of Nursing and eligible for a Florida Registered Nurse license. One year Perioperative nursing required.

All associate degree registered nurses with a RN hire/transfer date after December 31, 2012, must complete their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within six (6) years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.

Additional qualifications

Training will be provided to qualified candidates with a diverse OR background. Clinical competency to include, but not limited to, guidelines and standards of care, policies and procedures; patient and staff safety policy and procedures; technical preparation, operation and care of equipment necessary to perform an appointed surgical procedure.

Understands team concept in working with others. Possesses ability to prioritize in dealing with the needs of the surgical team during a case. Ability to function under stress and pressure.

Professional attitude and sense of confidentiality. Stands and walks almost continuously during work schedule. Transportation of audiovisual equipment.

Moderate to heavy lifting. Exposure to cuts, burns, bio-hazardous materials.

License or certification

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.

Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $25.83 per hour.

Nurses work to quickly assess the needs of each patient, prioritize care based on its critical nature, and work to stabilize a patient, treat the problem, discharge the patient after the emergency is over or make arrangements for a longer hospital stay.</p><p><br></p><p>Registered Nurses will be required to function as an intricate part of a high quality, efficiency driven medical team. Duties will be similar as those required in the Emergency Department. Emphasis is placed on creating positive patient experiences. <br></p><p><br></p><ul> <li>Delivery of patient care to a variety of patients (fast track, med-surg to critical care).</li> <li>Administration of a variety or medications to include critical care drips (i.e. Dopamine, nitro, Amiodarone, etc.)</li> <li>Appropriate delegation of patient care tasks to Patient Care Coordinators in order to optimize efficiency in patient care.</li> <li>Proficient in splinting, angiocath insertion, foley catheters, NG tubes, procedural set up (i.e. I&amp;D, suturing, Lumbar punctures, Chest tube), conscious sedation.</li> <li>Sympathetic to a patient's needs, and be able to deal with people in various states of pain, trauma and tragedy.</li> <li>Will face multiple patients with differing needs, stages of health and risks.
