About the Position:

The Lewis & Clark College Student Health Center reports under the Division of Student Life. It services all three Lewis & Clark campuses and their students: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School of Education & Counseling, and the Law School.

The Registered Nurse (RN) at the Student Health Center will provide medical care by assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of student's health care concerns. The nurse will work independently under clinic guidelines set by the standing orders for registered nurses and collaboratively with other clinic medical professionals to provide holistic health care to students. Teaching students health promotion and disease prevention is important to the nurse's responsibilities. Additionally, the nurse will provide backup support for the administrative staff as needed. Works to ensure a safe and inclusive work environment for employees.

Essential Functions:

CLINIC OPERATIONS

  • Oversee inventory management for medications, vaccines, equipment, and other clinic supplies.

  • Oversee payment for vendors

  • Perform phlebotomy and process specimens as necessary.

  • Organize annual vaccine clinics and ensure comprehensive care.

  • Coordinates outreach to incoming and transfer students who have not completed their Immunization compliance.

  • Plan and coordinate with the team at New Student Orientation to run an immunization compliance clinic for students who are out of compliance when they arrive on campus.

  • Develop strategies to improve efficiency, decrease waste, and improve the patient experience.

  • Participate in activities that improve the delivery of patient care, including continuing quality improvement projects, committees, and special projects as requested.

  • Assist in developing and reviewing new and existing policies and procedures.

  • Create clinic tools (algorithms, decision trees, etc.) in collaboration with the primary care team.

  • Assist SHC staff with management of electronic health records.

  • Maintain State vaccine registry (ALERT) and inventory for immunizations.

  • Other office or administrative type work as assigned.

DIRECT PATIENT CARE

  • Conduct clinical nursing assessments, diagnoses, and treatments within scope.

  • Triage student calls and recommends appropriate care.

  • Perform nursing procedures and interventions as needed.

  • Administer allergy injections and conduct phlebotomy when necessary.

  • Facilitates patient care with providers in the clinic, including following up with patients post-visit.

  • Supports providers by facilitating referrals to off-campus medical care

  • Accurately documents all nursing functions, treatments, and nurse/client interactions according to the internal policies of the Health Center.

  • Actively participates as a patient's advocate in interpreting medical and nursing plans for the patient. Applies scientific principles and knowledge of therapeutic methods and diagnostic means in planning and implementing nursing care.

RISK MANAGEMENT, COMPLIANCE, AND STANDARDS

  • Maintain knowledge of ethical and legal standards.

  • Provide consultation and supervision as needed.

  • Address concerns and complaints from stakeholders when appropriate(i.e. parents, students, staff, faculty).

  • Ensure compliance with state regulations and licensing standards.

  • Stays current with advances in medicine and other clinical and legal issues through appropriate continuing education.

Minimum Qualifiactions:

  • Graduate of a Registered Nursing Program

  • Oregon Registered Nurse licensure.

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.

  • Two years of outpatient clinic experience.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.

  • Crisis management skills and ability to work effectively with public health partners to respond to public health emergencies.

  • Proficient with EHR systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of clinic experience.

  • Experience in a college/university health setting.

  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes and electronic health records.

Work Schedule:

  • This is a 9.5 month position (weeks off to be determined in conjunction with supervisor and current staffing schedules)

  • Full-time (1.0 FTE) 37.5 hours per week

Pay Rate:

  • Salary $60,000-$65,000

  • Exempt: Yes

Eligibility to Work

Failure to have a completed I-9 form on file with the College will result in immediate termination of employment.
