I. Basic Purpose:
Coordinates and delivers all pre-admitting functions to the pre-admission patient while delivering a high level of indirect patient care; meets the psycho-social needs of the patient and family.
II. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required.
2.Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
3.Maintains established corporate departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with official rules and regulations as well as the health care systems' policies, procedures, and organizational requirements.
4.Demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers in order to facilitate an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
5.Conducts pre-admission interviews and documents medical history. Provides appropriate patient care based on the nursing process.
6.Facilitates appropriate testing on the pre-admission patient.
7.Maintains proper preparation of the patient's chart.
8.Reviews all testing and reports and documents abnormal tests to the appropriate team members.
9.Provides physical and emotional support to patient and family to reduce anxiety.
Communicates special concerns regarding medical and emotional needs of patient to team members.
Provides verbal instructions to the patient and/or family. Initiates patient and family teaching as appropriate for the procedure.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, CQI, safety and infection control standards.
Attends and participates in department and hospital meetings.
Maintains annual mandatory education requirements specific to position as mandated by Martin Memorial Health Systems.
Performs all other duties as assigned or requested.
III. Minimum Requirements (experience, training, and education):
To effectively fulfill this position, candidate must meet the following requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution of higher education within 3 years of hire date.
Current, valid Florida RN license--Primary Source online verification required directly from State of Florida licensing database.
Current acceptable CPR certification required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider OR American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer OR American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Minimum of one year medical/surgical nursing registration.
IV. Physical Requirements:
Position is mostly sedentary and requires the ability to sit for prolonged periods. Lifting and carrying weights of up to 10 pounds from low to high levels is occasionally required and is an essential function of the position.
Grasping and reaching are frequently required handling demands. Occasional walking, bending, kneeling, reaching overhead, and standing are also required. Independent decision-making is required. Mental concentration and working with precise limits of accuracy are important.
