Job Description:

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

RN-Associate's Degree OR

RN-Bachelor's Level Degree OR

Flexi/Night Shift

Department/Position Overview:
This unit specializes in the care of the Adult Surgical Patient.

Registered Nurses rotate on PODs to assist patients recovering from the following surgeries: Bariatric (gastric bypass/gastric sleeve),Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, GYN Surgery and trauma overflow patients. This is also a Living Kidney Donor Transplant Unit.

Experienced RNs and senior nursing students have the opportunity to work in a dynamic specialty surgical unit that offer's a comprehensive orientation in general surgery, surgical oncology, surgical urology, plastic surgical procedures, overflow trauma, orthopedics and L&D to list a few. 6k also has a Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), where we admit patients for aggressive monitoring of induced seizure activity. As a Level 1 hospital, our patients are often admitted with additional complex medical problems; critical thinking is valued and developed to full learning potential. Nursing experience on unit 6K will establish and build time management skills, strong electronic medical record documentation skills, post-operative care, dressing and wound care management, sepsis identification and opportunities to participate in research in the area of reduction of post operative complications and decrease length of stay within the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program.
