Currently seeking Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN)'s for a contract opening in Santa Clara, CA. This is a 13-week contract assignment with 12-hour shifts . The ideal candidate will possess a current CA Nursing License and have at least 2 years of recent PICU experience as an RN.

Responsibilities of the Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN)

  1. Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
  2. Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
  3. Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
  4. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition.
  5. Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
  6. Direct or supervise less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel or supervise a particular unit.
  7. Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
  8. Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
  9. Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention, or childbirth and develop health improvement programs.
  10. Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments.
  11. Prepare education patient on discharge instructions
  12. Setup / monitor / titrate IV drips including sedation, neuromuscular blockade, and vasopressors
  13. Setup / monitor invasive monitoring systems including arterial and central lines, and ICP monitoring systems
  14. Participate in Pediatric Code Blue team response

Requirements of the Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN)

  1. Current Resume
  2. CA Nursing License
  3. A nursing degree from an accredited nursing program
  4. Minimum 2 years of recent Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) experience as an RN
  5. Current BLS and/or ACLS and/or Specialty Certifications
  6. Two current clinical references
  7. Must be able to pass background/urine drug screening
  8. Knowledge of state and federal regulations

Coordinates with physicians, staff, and non-Kaiser providers and facilities regarding patient care. In conjunction with physicians, develops treatment plan, monitors all clinical activities, makes recommendations for alternative levels of care, identifies cost-effective protocols, and develops guidelines for care. Essential Functions: * Plans, develops, assesses, and evaluates care provided to members. Develops and maintains case management policies and procedures. Coordinates, directs, and performs concurrent and retrospective reviews, and monitors level and quality of care. * Coordinates the interdisciplinary approach to providing continuity of care, including utilization management, transfer coordination, discharge planning, and obtaining all authorizations/approvals as needed for outside services for patients/families. * Consults with internal and external physicians, health care providers, discharge planning and outside agencies regarding continued care/treatment or hospitalization. * Coordinates repatriation of patients and monitors their quality of care. * Arranges and monitors follow-up appointments. Encourages member to follow prescribed course of care (e.g., drug therapy, physical therapy). Makes referrals to appropriate community services. * Identifies and recommends opportunities for cost savings and improving the quality of care across the continuum. * Develops and collects data, and trends utilization of health care resources. * Interprets regulations, health plan benefits, policies, and procedures for members, physicians, medical office staff, contract providers, and outside agencies. * Coordinates transmission of clinical and benefit treatment to patients, families and outside agencies. * Acts as liaison for outside agencies, non-plan facilities, and outside providers. In conjunction with physicians, evaluates and develops treatment plans, recommends alternative levels of care, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. * Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis. Basic Qualifications: Experience * N/A Education * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. * Bachelor's degree in nursing or health related field, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field. * High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
