What you will be doing: * Provide evaluation and clinical psychiatric services to psychiatric patients, at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute. * Evaluate, diagnose, and order medications, as indicated, for patients on the treatment team panel. * Assume direct clinical responsibility for fundamental decisions regarding patient care and management; such as prevention and/or suicide of harm to others, involuntary commitment, increase of privileges, restriction of privileges, use of seclusion or restraints, discharge from hospital, etc. * Conduct individual therapy and psycho-educational groups, plan and conduct special therapeutic procedures, including the development of individual treatment plans for each patient admitted with the patient´s involvement (and family or friends as appropriate), including the development of individualized behavior plans. * Prepare timely, thorough, and accurate admission psychiatric evaluations and discharge summaries, as well as necessary reports and correspondence concerning patient evaluations and care, and systematically document patient progress. * Participate in on call duties. Who we are looking for: * Sufficient knowledge of methods of general medicine and primary health care, methods of diagnosing and treating medical disorders, appropriate laboratory tests and drug and/or physical therapies available to properly assess patients, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, making diagnoses, initiating and managing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and serving as a patient's primary or psychiatric healthcare provider. * Ability to empathetically listen, examine, diagnose, treat, and reexamine using sound clinical thinking and judgment while maintaining a fair, firm, consistent, and safe practice. * Ability to diagnose and manage medical issues independently, including medical emergencies, with limited resources; participate in collaborative decision-making when appropriate; and use self-awareness regarding personal/facility limits to seek consult or refer issues to an appropriate health care provider/specialist for advice and/or treatment. * Ability and willingness to perform duties under various levels of security and objectively, non-judgmentally, and compassionately interact with and treat vulnerable individuals of diverse, underserved populations in a culturally appropriate manner. * Ability to adhere to health care best practices; national and State guidelines; department, division, and section policies and procedures, care guides, and bylaws; and various other approved resources to provide essential health care.
