Registered Nurse / Medical Oncology Unit


  • Provide patient and family education and discharge planning.

  • Recognize and respond to changes in a patient's condition.

  • Provide assessment and care of Medical/Surgical, Oncologic, Chronically ill, terminally ill & Palliative Care patients.

  • Provide safe medication administration for the Medical/Surgical, Oncologic (chemotherapy requires certification for Registered Nurses), chronically ill and terminally ill patient.

  • Performs assessments within their Scope of Practice.

  • Collects and reports data.

  • Provide education and facilitates with discharge planning.

  • Ensure patient satisfaction.


  • Prior experience on a Medical/Oncology Unit

Licensure and Certifications:

  • New Hampshire State Licensure or Valid Compact State License
  • BLS


  • ASN

The Director works collaboratively with the Oncology Service Line Director in guiding their service line growth, patient satisfaction, physician???s relations and fiscal responsibility. The Director supervises and directs the delivery of patient care and care related services for the Medical Oncology Unit in accordance to administrative policies, as well as hospital vision, mission and strategies. The Director works collaboratively with staff, physicians, and other disciplines within the hospital to create a system of safe, quality health care. SPECIFIC ELEMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Manages the fiscal and clinical operations of assigned area(s) of responsibility and recommends sufficient number of qualified competent persons to provide care. Participates in outside source selection for needed services. *2. Integrates departmental services with the hospital???s mission/vision maintaining communication with medical and nursing staffs, administration, patients and their families/significant other. Coordinates and integrates services within departments. *3. Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support provision of services. Supervises nursing staff and assures staff competency, including executing on key tactics for employee and patient engagement. (Ex. AIDET, Employee Rounding and Nurse Leader Rounding) *4. Conducts ongoing assessment and improvement of the department???s performance. Promotes Quality Management and Patient Safety program of the facility maintaining appropriate Process Improvement initiatives. Works as an active member of the interdisciplinary team to focus on continued quality improvement. 5. Develops, markets, implements, and evaluates new services and programs recommending space and resources needed. Participates in outside source selection for needed services. Works in conjunction with physicians and market resources to promote growth in the service line. Ensure clinical competence of staff through ongoing evaluation, promotion of continuing education, and nursing certification (med/surg), oncology certification and other advanced clinical education. *6. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and educates staff on standard and practice changes providing understand of such and its effect on quality patient care. *7. Develops goals and objectives for assigned area(s) of responsibility and participates in development of goals and objectives for the Nursing Department. *8. Provides for orientation, in-service training, and continuing education for persons in the department. Promotes engagement of staff through communication of departmental and hospital updates. Identifies individuals for departmental and hospital committee involvement and provides support to ensure consistent attendance and representation. Qualifications Education: ???
