Job Summary

We are searching for a Staff Nursesomeone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. In this position you'll provide quality nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating age appropriate care in a manner that incorporates family centered principles and cost effective care. We need someone who can collect and analyze data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including bio-physical, psychosocial, developmental (age-appropriate), cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner

  • Collects and analyzes data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care

  • Identifies patient's needs pertaining to patient teaching, discharge planning, growth and development, nutritional screening, functional status, and pain management

  • Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes in the patient's condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record

  • Discusses the patient's plan of care with family and/or significant individuals and documents in the medical record as appropriate

  • Evaluates and documents patient's response to the care provided and recognizes the patient's progress toward meeting the desired outcomes and discusses with the patient/family

  • Formulates, implements, and documents individualized teaching plan based on patient/family assessment

  • Serves as a patient/family advocate while caring for patients and collaborating with other health care team members

  • Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner

  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performances

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing Or Associates Degree in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement Or Technical diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement Or Must be currently enrolled in a nursing bridge program working toward an MSN.

  • Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required.

  • Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas is required

  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association is required

  • (1) year of professional nursing experience

Responsibilities Job Duties & Responsibilities * Perform and document assessments of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs * Collect and analyze data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care * Analyze situations, anticipate potential problems, and detect changes in patient status * Identify each patient's needs pertaining to patient teaching, discharge planning, growth and development, nutritional screening, functional status, and pain management * Develop an individualized plan of care based upon the nursing assessment and re-prioritize and change as necessary * Determine which standards of care and practice apply to the patient and coordinate among other health team members as appropriate * Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences * Execute therapeutic physician or nurse interventions according to established standards * Evaluate and document the patient's response to the care provided and recognize their progress towards the desired outcome * Identify actual/potential barriers to learning and utilize various teaching strategies to overcome them as appropriate * Maintain confidentiality concerning patient/family issues * Act as a resource in educating new employees/team members * Participate in achieving hospital/unit goals, structures, and priorities Qualifications Skills & Requirements * Bachelor's degree in nursing or other degree in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement * Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas and current BLS certification is required * 1 year of professional nursing experience, 2 years preferred * The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills, good time and resource management skills, flexibility, strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of unit-specific equipment, and knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, and interdisciplinary collaboration * Experience with oncology patients, chemo certified preferred but not required Company Profile Texas Children's Hospital West Campus is Houston's first community hospital designed, built and equipped exclusively for children in one of the city's most rapidly growing communities in the area from Sugar Land to Bryan-College Station, Texas.
