The Critical Care Registered Nurse provides specialized care for critically ill patients. Primary responsibilities include monitoring patients, administering medications, conducting assessments, and providing patient education. Uses an integrated approach toward achieving desired patient outcomes. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others while showing respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a resource, preceptor and mentor and provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patients, families, nurses and healthcare delivery teams.

Job Responsibilities

• Monitors and assesses critically ill patients located at Inova Health System's Fairfax Medical Campus

• Administers medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians

• Collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans

• Performs specialized procedures such as inserting and managing central lines, arterial lines, and ventilators

• Maintains accurate and detailed patient records

• Educates patients and their families on the disease process, treatment options, and self-care techniques

• Provides emotional support to patients and families during difficult times

• Collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes

• Stays updated on current research, trends, and best practices in critical care nursing

• May perform additional duties as assigned

Additional Requirements

Certification

• Basic Life Support; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Instructor

Licensure

• Licensed Registered Nurse or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse

Experience

• 1 year clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship, 2 years ED experience preferred.

Education

• Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree; If RN has an Associate's Degree, must complete BSN within 24 months of start date
