Responsibilities
The Emergency Department (ED) Charge Nurse is responsible and accountable to the Department Director for the quality of nursing staff and the delivery of patient care during his/her shift and assists the Director in the daily operation of the respective unit(s)/department. Here are some Charge Nurse qualities we're looking for on our ER team:
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN), preferred
valid Texas State Registered Nursing (RN) license, required
current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current, required
current ACLS (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain current
current PALS certificate and/or ENPC within 30 days of hire and maintain current
Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) certificate within 12 months of hire
Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) within 2 years of hire, preferred
previous supervisory experience, preferred
minimum of one year as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital ED setting, required
Facility Specific Requirements (facility may require items listed below):
In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN within 12 months of hire and maintain current
EDAP certified facilities: completion of emergency pediatric course 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire
Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate 90 days upon hire and maintain current
Non-OB facilities: Advanced or AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certificate within 30 days upon hire
minimum of 4 hours of CEU in Pediatric Training Classes per year ENPC, preferred
