Inova Loudoun Hospital Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab is looking for a PRN (as needed) Registered Nurse with a passion for patient education and progression for individuals with cardiovascular and/or pulmonary disease. Ideal candidate has cardiovascular nursing experience and enjoys working in an innovative collaborative multidisciplinary team atmosphere. Fast paced department, candidate will be moving and teaching for majority of their shift.

This unit is open M-F days with no weekend or holiday requirements and schedule will vary.

Clinic hours:

MWTh: 6.45a-6pm; Tues: 7.45a-5p; Fri: 7.45a-1p

No nights, weekends, or holidays

Candidates must be able to orient FT or PT for the first 90 days. Once orientation is complete, you will work approximately 2-3 shifts per month.

Cardiac Rehab is an outpatient lifestyle management program for individuals recovering from a recent cardiac event. All Inova Cardiac Rehab programs are certified and align with AACVPR guidelines and practice initiatives. Candidates should be comfortable working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of nurses, exercise physiologists, registered dietitians and behavioral health providers.

Description:

As a Nursing team member in Cardiopulmonary Rehab you will work with a multidisciplinary team that may be comprised of exercise physiologists, registered dietitians, respiratory therapists, or behavioral health specialists who work together supporting optimal health status for patient with cardiovascular and pulmonary disease. You will perform clinical and risk factor assessments to develop Individual Treatment Plans around cardiopulmonary clinical and risk factor needs, exercise prescription, while providing education supporting behavioral health and lifestyle management in order to achieve optimal outcomes for each patient we serve. As part of patient care you will evaluate patient responses to prescribed treatment and care plans. Ideal candidates have a focus on a whole body approach to patient well-being and enjoy working on a multidisciplinary team in a collaborative innovative environment. Cardiovascular nursing experience preferred.

  • Develops exercise prescription, incorporating comorbidity and musculoskeletal disorders, per established program (ACCVPR, ACSM, ATS) standards and guidelines, as evidenced by random chart review.

  • Develops Individual Treatment Plans to include exercise and strength training programs, patient education and behavioral health support specific to each patient in order to achieve optimal outcomes for each patient.

  • Demonstrates proper instruction and technique for performing appropriate exercise and strength training to ensure patient safety and adherence to exercise prescription, as evidenced by direct observation.

  • Immediately reports significant changes in patient clinical status to appropriate members of healthcare team and assists with emergency care according to department policy, as evidenced by direct observation.

  • Identifies risk factors and conducts appropriate physical assessments for baseline measurement to include waist measurement, BMI, along with additional function testing as indicated by program operations evidenced by random chart reviews.

  • Complete patient assess for disease specific risk factors and clinical needs which may impact the Individual Treatment Plan, as evidenced by random chart review.

  • Provides validation of clinical decisions for other team members.

  • Supports and engages in clinical outcomes and quality improvement initiatives. Utilizes standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery. Determines process for delivery of care from direct patient and family communication, technology, and other healthcare team member collaboration.

  • Anticipates ethical, spiritual and cultural needs while supporting patient care

Additional Requirements

Minimum of 1 year of experience as Registered Nurse required; prefer prior cardiac or tele unit experience.

Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing.

  • If RN has an Associates Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 24 months of start date.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider certification required from American Heart Association (AHA)
  • ACLS strongly preferred
  • RN licensed, or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a RN
