POSITION PURPOSE
The Charge Nurse renders professional nursing services in the treatment and care of assigned residents in accordance with the physician's orders.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions
Obtain residents' screening information and prepare them for physician examinations (take a complete medical history, examine vital signs, weigh them, and instruct them in the collection of samples and tests when required).
Perform general nursing care for residents, administer prescribed medications and treatments, prepare equipment, and assist physicians during treatments, examinations, and testing as requested; observe, record, and report residents' condition and reaction to drugs and treatments as directed.
Educate and answer all questions from residents and families concerning the purpose, possible risks, and benefits of treatment procedures and/or medications.
Maintain and reviews residents' records, charts, and other pertinent information and post tests and examination results.
Requisition and arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services, as ordered by the physician, either within the facility or by outside arrangements.
Obtain laboratory evaluations and communicate findings with residents and/or their caretakers.
Admit, transfer and discharge residents, including arranging transportation, packing, etc.
Ensure an adequate stock level of medications, medical supplies, and equipment is maintained at all times.
Ensure that department personnel, residents, visitors, etc., follow established policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations, at all times.
Work with other departments, including food services and the pharmacy, to efficiently and effectively meet the residents' needs.
Meet with supervisors on a regularly scheduled basis to review problem areas and discuss methods for improvement.
Perform Nursing Assistant job responsibilities as needed.
Attend meetings and participate on committees as requested.
Attend and participate in workshops and seminars to enhance skills and keep abreast of current changes in the healthcare/continuing care retirement community fields, as well as to maintain a professional status.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as directed.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) state license is required (or must have applied for transfer of license from another state).
One (1) to two (2) years' experience, preferably in long-term care or a related field.
