The Minnesota Veterans Home

  • Minneapolis is looking for a full-time Registered Nurse Principal

  • Infection Preventionist. The position will plan, organize, direct, and maintain the Infection Prevention/Control Program for the facility that meets applicable regulatory requirements. This program includes both the Resident and Employee Health Program.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position.

  • Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions

  • Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse working in a skilled nursing facility

  • Experience in infection prevention and control sufficient to prevent transmission of epidemiologically important pathogens, prevent and control outbreaks, report communicable diseases, and follow up on exposures to blood borne pathogens

  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to skilled nursing and surveys

  • Ability to problem-solve, influence, educate, and provide direction to staff, residents, and families on infection prevention and control

  • Ability to write policies and procedures

  • Effective communication skills

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or ability to obtain certification within the probation period

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse working in a skilled nursing facility

  • One year of experience working in infection prevention and control

  • Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology

Additional Requirements:

The selection process may include the following:

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.

  • Finalists will be required to pass a job-related pre-employment physical assessment.

  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.

  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
