For more information on SCA, visit www.scasurgery.com.Accountabilities / ResponsibilitiesWe are actively hiring for an Registered Nurse (RN) PreOp. * Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA. * Assess patient's preoperative status at intervals according to facility or health care organization policies and procedures to include the patient's* cardiovascular system,* respiratory system and airway management needs,* neurological system,* hemodynamic stability,* pain and comfort needs, and* mental status. * Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors. * Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes. * Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions. * Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care by implementing:*
  • Preparing for and protecting patient from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects.*
  • Communicating the patient's current status throughout the perianesthesia continuum of care. * Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal sources. * Demonstrating safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation. * Speaking up with safety concerns acting as the patient's advocate. * Handling specimens according to facility policy and procedures.*
  • Adhering to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment. * Providing acute pain and comfort management as needed. * Administering medications safely and correctly by using the 8-rights of safe medication administration. * Performing interventions to maintain the integrity of the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels. * Performing interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.*
  • Providing nursing and appropriate monitoring in accordance with policies and procedures. * Performing interventions to protect patient from infection. * Managing patient's other co-morbid conditions as applicable. * Managing patient's fluid as prescribed. * Assessing the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person.*
  • Providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medical management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure. * Involving patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process. * Protecting patient's rights, dignity, and privacy. * Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice; and * Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy. * Evaluate the patient's progress toward attaining outcomes. * Transfer care as needed. * Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient's condition and response to care. * Delegate tasks according to the state Nurse Practice Act (if applicable), state board of nursing or professional registration requirements, state laws, and job descriptions. * Document episode of care completely, accurately, and legibly. * Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders. * Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning patient care. * Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects. * Participate in the performance appraisal process. * Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members. * Maintain required competencies. * Pursue professional growth. * Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information. * Comply with SCA and facility policies and procedures when providing patient care. * Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles. * Demonstrate fiscal responsibility. * Perform all other duties as assigned.Qualifications * Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing. * One year of ICU, ED, PACU, and/or medical / surgical nursing experience preferred. * Current state licensure to practice within good standings. * Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification. * Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification. * Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility scope services within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification. * Specialty certification in Perioperative or perianesthesia Nursing is preferred.Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:* Physically demanding, high-stress environment * Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions * Pushing and pulling heavy objects * Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients and equipment * Manual and finger dexterity * Hand eye coordination * Standing and walking for extensive periods of time * Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs * Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range * Working irregular hoursAs a representative of Surgical Care Affiliates, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct impact on the Facility's success. Accountabilities / Responsibilities The PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the facility. * Skills and Abilities: * Ability to correlate clinical data with patient's medical and nursing care. * Ability to set priorities. * Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency throughout the clinical areas of the facility. * Ability to communicate well with patients, families, Teammates, physicians, other members of the healthcare team, etc. * Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice. * Clinical Quality: * Assesses, plans, evaluates and ensures the implementation of the patient's care to achieve identified outcomes and delivers safe patient care according to facility policy and procedure. * Assesses patient status on admission and on an ongoing basis. * Implements appropriate standards of care based on assessment data and patient's own goals. Goals are mutually set with the patient and family * Coordinates nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for discharge. * Ensures provision of patient care daily in an organized and timely manner. * Adheres to all facility policies and procedures when providing patient care. * Utilizes nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care. * Demonstrates ability to direct and provide for patient care in emergency situations. * Assesses learning needs according to patient's level of understanding and readiness to learn. * Evaluates patient's progress toward outcome achievement on an ongoing basis. * Revises plan of care based on change in patient status and/or information gathered at change of shift * Documents patient's progress toward achievement of outcomes. * Directs others in the implementation of the teaching plan. * Assumes an active role in the provision of quality nursing care for patients receiving care. * Analyzes nursing care provided in the facility related to the established standards of care. * Participates in the monitoring and evaluation of nursing care provided. * Demonstrates ability to coordinate the nursing care provided in the facility. * Assigns patient care responsibilities based on patient needs and abilities of available staff. * Assumes charge nurse responsibility as assigned. * Demonstrates ability to make decisions concerning facility-based problems. * Participates on quality council to facilitate improvement of patient care. * Participates in the orientation of nursing staff. * Participates in developing standardized patient education programs, as requested. * Participates in team conferences on assigned patients. Qualifications * Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing. * High School Diploma or equivalent Required * At least one year of medical/surgical nursing experience preferred. * Current state licensure to practice. Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS)/Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification. * Successful completion of ACLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification. * Successful completion of PALS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation or current PALS certification.
