Our pediatric department is comprised of 6 rooms that treat patients from ages of newborn through 18 years of age. Nurses are trained to care for post-operative (such as T&A, appendectomy, etc),outpatient procedures, and illnesses that include febrile & respiratory.
Nursing skills gained:
Patient and family support
Difficult IV starts and venipunctures
Communication skills based on patient age group
Unit Successes/Designations/National recognition:
Peds RN caring for babies in postpartum and NICU
Peds RN helping task with peds patients in the Emergency Department
Unit Culture Highlights:

Strong collaboration with multidisciplinary departments (respiratory therapy, social work)
Qualifications
Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
