The AAU/PCU is a progressive care unit, with 32 private rooms. As the only PCU at IU West, we have the potential to see all varieties of adult patients including cardiology (A-fib, CHF), neurology (Stroke), pulmonology (Covid, Pneumonia), endocrinology (DKA, New onset DM), hematology/oncology, gastrointestinal, surgical and end of life. The design of the unit is to promote collaboration amongst the team. The open lines of sight and private rooms, allows for ease of work for clinicians and increased patient comfort.
Nursing skills gained on this unit:
Critical care assessment skills
Training for PD, non-titrating drips such as dopamine & dobutamine
Assist with bedside procedures such as: TEE and cardioversions
Fostering support for patients and family with end-of-life care

Many RNs with nursing certification such as PCCN and MSRN

Qualifications
Greater than one year of RN experience.
Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
