Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking applicants for the part-time RN position. Successful candidates must be available to work 12-hour shifts on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., or 8-hour shifts from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., and 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Part-time RNs are required to work a minimum of 64 hours per month. Additionally, they must work 4 hours on either Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day, as well as 4 hours on another holiday, such as the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, or New Year's Day.

Registered Nurse delivers quality nursing care to adult through utilization of the nursing process in accordance with hospital policy and procedure and standards of nursing care and practice.

Paid Shift Differential:

1st shift weekend $5.50/hr.

2nd shift weekdays $5.50/hr., and weekend/holidays $6.00/hr.

3rd shift weekdays $4.00/hr., and weekend/holidays $7.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic nursing standards and fundamentals.

• Current, Virginia license to practice as a Registered Nurse or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted.

• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders and cultural needs of the psychiatric patient.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

• Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited institution of higher education, work experience may substitute for education.
