Work Schedule: Days and Evenings with Call Weekend and Holiday Rotation

Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the PACU is responsible for delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the pre-operative and post-operative phases. She/he anticipates the needs of the patient. Participates in patient teaching and provides leadership by working with ancillary personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the PACU.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of accredited School of Nursing

  • BSN preferred

  • Operating Room experience or minimal two years medical surgical experience

  • BLS Training required

  • ACLS training required

  • Meets and is current and competent with all NYS licensure requirements. Not limited to Infection Control and Child Abuse mandatory reporting

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous nursing experience strongly preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to perform technical aspects of job with unit-based equipment

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to work across Service Line

  • Ability to meet demands of unit staffing - need for increased census and acuity

  • Adaptable to inside and outside environmental conditions

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal heat, light space, and safe working environment; typical of most office jobs

  • Occasional exposure to one or more mildly unpleasant physical conditions

Participates and/or provides patient and family teaching. Provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary, nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the Emergency Department. Responsibilities: EDUCATION * Graduate from an accredited Registered Professional Nursing Program, * BSN preferred * Current New York State registration as a professional registered nurse. Current BLS validation * ACLS within one (1) year of hire/transfer * PALS certification required within one (1) year of hire/transfer * Successful completion or challenge of Cardiac Rhythm exam within 6 months of hire/transfer. * All current ED associates, external hires and transfer will complete and maintain the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS) within 12 months from date of hire/transfer with recertification every 2 years. * FOR new hires/transfers only: * Completion of assigned ENA modules prior to the completion of ED RN orientation. * Completion or successful challenge of ER-BKAT within 6 months of hire/transfer. EXPERIENCE * One (1) year current acute care experience required. * Previous Critical care, telemetry or emergency experience preferred. Subject to inside environmental conditions: protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Subject to hazards includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving parts or frequent exposure to many unpleasant physical and environmental conditions.
