New Graduates
New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development.
The Operating Room is a direct care unit providing care to the surgical patient during the intraoperative process. Nurses and Techs are responsible for ensuring instrumentation and equipment are functional and available, ensuring the sterility of instrumentation and equipment, assist the surgeon and anesthesia to provide for a safe and efficient process. Our OR department consists of 6 rooms that include robotics and open-heart. Our nurses care for intraoperative services that include cardiac, orthopedics, neurology, gynecology, ENT, and podiatry.
This unit does have an on-call requirement.
Nursing skills gained on this unit:
Assisting anesthesia during intubation/extubation
Assisting surgeon during procedure
Critical care to assist with A-lines, traumas, massive blood loss, cardiac and respiratory arrest
Caring for patients during malignant hyperthermia crisis
Unit success/designations:
CNOR certification
Multiple Daisy awards
Magnet certification
Unit culture/highlights:

6-month intensive orientation
Teamwork with RN and CST/CSFA roles
Collaboration with hospital units to ensure safe effective care to patient and family
Qualifications
Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
