The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) Fellowship is a full time intensive six (6) month comprehensive, blended educational program that utilizes Periop 101 Core Curriculum developed by the Association of peri

Operative Registered Nurse (AORN), aimed at preparing a select group of RN's for independent practice in the surgical arena at St. Luke's University Health Network.

Ideal candidates for application to the St. Luke's Operating Room RN Fellowship Program are:

  • Nursing students with prospective Spring/Fall/Winter graduation dates who will be eligible

to sit for NCLEX and obtain licensure

  • Experienced RN's
  • RN's who have been out of the intraoperative setting for more than five years

The Operating Room RN Fellowship is conducted at various sites within the St. Luke's University Health Network and is supervised by the Director of Patient Care Services and Lead Perioperative Network Educator/Fellowship Coordinator.

Upon successful completion of the Operating Room RN Fellowship Program, the select RN's will be assigned employment and begin a career in the Operating Room at St. Luke's.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs in depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients.

  • Formulates collaborative and individualized plan of care and identifies expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process.

  • Implements, evaluates and documents patient care interventions and effectiveness in accordance with care plan.

  • Organizes, coordinates and prioritizes patient care consistently utilizing available resources.

  • Maintains an awareness of unit budget.

  • Functions as a professional role model and resource person providing guidance to co-workers.

  • Takes active role in unit-based performance improvement.

  • Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs.

  • Complies with established chain of command for work related problems.

  • Participates in identifying unit needs and supports unit goals and objectives that contribute to the growth of the Patient Services Department.

  • Maintains departmental records for administrative and regulatory purposes.

  • Collaborates with other caregivers to assure appropriate staffing levels on all shifts.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 10 hours per day; 8 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, carry and push objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lift, carry and push objects up to 75 lbs. Transports patients weighing up to 500 lbs. via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above should level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.

EDUCATION:

Current RN license in the State of Pennsylvania or State of New Jersey.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Individualized orientation program for all areas. Evidence of successful completion of BLS.

Our nurses work collaboratively with members of an interdisciplinary team to assure delivery of high quality nursing services to patients and families, in the home and in the patient's place of residence. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Evaluates and performs initial and ongoing comprehensive assessments on patients referred for home health nursing services. Determines eligibility for admission, obtains financial and statistical data, formulates initial care plan according to the patient's Plan of Care and processes the admission. * Refers patients to other agency disciplines and to community resource as needed. * Assesses, promotes and maintains health of individuals, families, and the community through teaching, counseling and appropriate preventive and rehabilitative measures in the practice of nursing. * Provides ongoing assessment to determine service frequency, change in Plan of Care and discharge from service in compliance with agency policy and philosophy. * Functions as the designated coordinator of patient care responsible for assuring the provision of optimum, comprehensive multidisciplinary care. * Assures care plans are followed according to agency standards for the provision of quality care, appropriate service utilization, and compliance with third party payer requirements for reimbursement. * Communicates with the patient's physician, referral source, and members of the multidisciplinary team both orally and in writing as required by the patient's condition and agency policy. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: Heavy Work Exertional activity. Occasionally lift and/or carry 100 lbs., frequently lift and/or carry 50 lbs., and stand and/or walk at least 6 hours in an 8-hour work day. Non-exertional activity: Stooping (bending at the waist) and crouching (stooping and bending at the knees) – required frequently; handling (grasping) – required frequently; and fingering (fine manipulation) – required only occasionally. QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM) EDUCATION: A graduate of an approved school of professional nursing who is licensed as a Registered Nurse by the state in which practicing, Baccalaureate degree preferred.
