Job Description

OVERVIEW

The Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Director of Nursing and manages individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients' health through nursing, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members, and providing physical and psychological support to patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list may not include all the duties assigned.)

  • Provides interdependent functions that overlap the practice of medicine that require standardized procedures; follows appropriate guidelines following the organization's written policies.

  • Ensure that staff provides the highest quality of care and operates within the scope and responsibilities of an RN according to federal, state, and local requirements.

  • Provide patient assessment and care, including taking vital signs, administering medications and injections, and performing minor medical procedures as ordered by the licensed independent practitioner in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Provide a holistic and compassionate approach to support that looks at the patient's physical and mental health needs. Extend the emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual support to our patients' friends, and families.

  • Promotes patient independence by educating patients on treatments, self-care, and disease prevention.

  • The RN can monitor patient progress and respond to changes in conditions. Perform laboratory tests are ordered per standardized procedures and relay test results or a medical diagnosis once made by an authorized licensed independent practitioner. Follow up on all clinical issues and actively resolve them promptly.

  • Collaborate with medical staff to develop patient care plans and coordinate care utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.

  • Maintain emergency kits in collaboration with DON and MA at each clinical site.

  • Participate in the ongoing competency and proficiency assessment of all Licensed Vocational Nurses and Medical Assistants.

  • Provide supervisory guidance in collaboration with the DON to the LVN and Medical Assistants who work at the satellite sexual health clinics to ensure that quality of care is delivered to meet patient's care expectations.

  • Provide direct clinical care at all clinical sites. A schedule is to be determined with the DON.

  • Maintain a safe work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations calling for assistance from health care support personnel.

  • Supports the Director of Nursing in staff training for all infection prevention, including but not limited to one-on-one mentoring, presenting topics to mitigate risks, and developing workflows in coordination with the DON to increase staff knowledge.

  • Works with the Lead MA and Director of Nursing to maintain adequate medical equipment inventory on an agreed-upon schedule.

  • Reviews lab values; performs medication reconciliation; reports abnormal findings to provider and intervenes as appropriate.

  • Documents patient care services in the electronic health record.

  • Maintains patient continuity by conducting warm handoffs and documenting in the electronic health record using the SBAR format.

  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operation by keeping patient information confidential.

  • Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner sensitive to the patient's diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights.

  • Attends and participates in weekly/monthly staff meetings, case conferences, in-services, and other meetings as assigned.

  • Monitor compliance with OSHA, HIPPA, and all other applicable regulations

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, participating in professional societies, and renewing certifications.

  • Assist in the completion of Confidential Morbidity Reports.

  • Report to California Department Public of Health regarding treatments for positive STI patients.

  • Other duties may be assigned, as required.

Company Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid license as a registered nurse (RN) in California.

  • Current Basic Life Support certification

  • Minimum of three years experience in direct patient care

  • Basic knowledge of other infectious diseases and state/ federal reporting requirements.

  • Experience in HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and chronic disease care/ management preferred.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the the effects of psychosocial needs, trauma history, and cognitive/behavioral/motivational functioning on health-related behavior and be able to intervene appropriately and effectively.

  • Have the appropriate behavioral maturity and patience in handling various patient types and needs.

  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Able to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Have diplomacy and tact to de-escalate potentially complex patients or situations.

  • Ability to work effectively with men and transgender women of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment.

  • Treats all teammates, colleagues, vendors, and customers respectfully.

COMPANY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a background check to include a 7-year criminal, 10-year SSN & employer history reference check, and a pre-employment drug test.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Must be able to work flexible schedules.

  • Must accept annual flu vaccine unless agreed upon medical exemption or wear a mask during respiratory season.

  • Flexibility and adaptability are a must. Able to float to different locations to meet staffing needs, some Saturdays included.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public in person.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dollar totals, monetary conversions, discounts, interest, fractions, decimals, percentages, area, volume, and drug calculators.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve clinical, technical, and practical problems. Able to deal with various intangibles with limited communication, support, information, and access. Ability to interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Must have good computer skills and be proficient in using systems to complete correspondence, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, such as Microsoft Outlook and Office; Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
