Under the general supervision of the Registered Nurse/Team Lead, the Maternal Children Health (MCH) and Immunization (IZ) Nurse will provide cultural competent nursing services, patient education, and counseling for individuals in public health clinics or homes. Provide nursing care for Immunization, Maternal Children Health (MCH), Postpartum Newborn Home Visits (PPNBHV), Lead Metabolic, and Congenital Syphilis, clinics per agency policies and procedures, and current standing medical orders, and patient specific medical orders. Provide quality customer service and maintain strict confidentiality.

Services:

Promote and support the development of programs, policies, and services that provide interventions that improve the health status of populations.

  • Implement care plans to include appropriate interventions, education, and counseling based on identified needs; administer medication and or treatment according to standing medical orders and initiate follow up on referrals when indicated.

  • Promote wellness through activities directed toward prevention and reduction of risk factors, early detection of disease and control and management of identified health problems.

  • Provide newborn postpartum home visits to infants and mothers, in Lancaster and Kershaw counties.

  • Provide coordination and or tracking of high risk clients.

  • This position may require periodic standing and lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.

Public Health Emergency Preparedness

  • Ensure staff are trained and prepared to respond to emergencies.

  • Assist with Medical Needs Shelter (MNS) operations, maintain supportive nursing practice competencies to include, but not limited to, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal best practice injection administration, oral medication administration, and client emergency response including First Aid, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated external defibrillator (AED), and be willing and available to assist during times of public health emergency response.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements:

Licensure as a registered nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina. Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements:

Licensed as a registered nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina. Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.

A Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification must be received within the first 30 days of employment and maintained as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Licensed as a registered nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Prior experience in nursing.

Additional Comments

This position is part of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control's Immunization and Maternal Children Health. The work performed supports DHEC's mission to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians by protecting and promoting the health of the public and the environment. Effective July 1, 2024, this position will transfer to the South Carolina Department of Public Health created by Senate Bill 399 which provides for the creation of the Department of Public Health to assume the public health-related functions of DHEC.

Driving Record: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
