We are seeking a licensed Registered Nurse. This position will assist in the daily oversight and documentation of medical needs of individuals with developmental disabilities who attend our day program. Daily duties include medication administration and maintenance of all medication and medical records; development and updates to Annual Nursing Reviews, Plans of Nursing Services, and other required documents for the individuals who attend program; ongoing collaboration and communication with program staff, residential nurses and other clinical staff on behalf of individuals served. Responsible for teaching and training staff in medication administration and other related medical courses as necessary per OPWDD guidelines.

Requirements:

Licensure by the New York State Department of Education as a Registered Nurse

1 - 2 year's experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with records management

This job description is intended to describe the nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position. It is not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required of the job incumbents.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for oversight of medical care and services for consumers in site based Day Habilitation services through hands-on care, records review and interactions with direct support professionals and residential providers. Provides supervision and oversight to medication administration certified staff. Ensures the delivery of medical services and medication administration are in compliance with the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) regulations.

COMPANY STANDARDS

  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality in order to provide ensure quality services to individuals served. This position performs all hours onsite and at all assigned physical locations of service, unless exceptions are determined to be based on business needs and approved.

  • Follows and ensures that all individuals follow all safety rules and regulations, including wearing/using required personal protective equipment while working. Immediately addresses and reports any safety concerns or unsafe working conditions to the Associate Director of Day Habilitation Services or the VP of Services.

  • Ensures that all aspects of medical care and services to individuals served are in compliance with the JM Murray mission statement, policies and procedures, professional standards, and applicable governmental laws, rules and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Addresses and documents the daily medical needs of site based Day Habilitation consumers, both emergency and routine, working cooperatively with other medical staff involved with a person's care. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: medication administration (passing of medications), supervision of medication supplies and records, maintaining adequate medical supplies and maintaining the medical logs for consumers.

  • Responsible and accountable for the medical standards of Day Habilitation Services and for medical compliance related to annual certification.

  • Attends Life Plan and other required meetings for all site based consumers.

  • Updates medical records on an annual, semi-annual and as-needed basis for consumers and ensures the information is shared with the residential RN and the Associate Directors of Day Habilitation Services.

  • Develops, monitors, and reviews all medical related documents including but not limited to Annual Nursing Reviews, Plans of Nursing Services and self-medication assessments which address the medical needs of consumers.

  • Works directly and cooperatively with residential nursing staff and clinicians as well as day habilitation team members to ensure consumers are receiving optimal medical care.

  • Responsible for the oversight and maintenance of orders, scripts and records as prescribed by regulatory compliance and licensure. Responsible for ordering medications, checking medication orders, narcotics reviews, and inventory.

  • Responsible for updates to Medication Logs and ensure Medication Administration Records are updated and current.

  • Advises the Associate Director of any significant medical issues and/or changes in a consumer's medical status as well as any medical regulatory compliance issues. Maintains familiarity with regulations in order to maintain current medical policy and procedures, and best practices.

  • Trains designated direct support professionals in medication administration. This includes supervision of testing and medication passes, maintenance of certification records and related documentation. Provides ongoing supervision of medication administration.

  • Provides training for day habilitation employees on medical issues, including but not limited to TB, HIV, Hepatitis B, first aid, seizures, choking and consumer-specific medical issues.

  • Coordinates and facilitates the Infection Control Committee, ensuring that action items are completed and that there is a good representation of members from the Day Habilitation program on the committee. May be assigned to attend other internal committees on an ongoing or as needed basis such as the Incident Review Committee, Human Rights Committee, Inappropriate Behavior Report/Medication Committee, and the Safety Committee meetings.

  • Reviews all new and updated regulations, OPWDD memorandums and other changes that pertain to the medical requirements of day habilitation service requirements.

  • Maintains a high level of communication with the management team of Day Habilitation Services, in a team orientated approach to ensure quality and effective day habilitation services.

  • Responds to reported incidents and investigations by ensuring the assigned required safeguards are immediately implemented and communicated and promptly follows up on all medical recommendations.

  • Performs clerical duties necessary to maintain accurate records and service operations including but not limited to filing, copying, computer entry, organizing and ordering supplies, etc.

  • Attends all required and requested training and meetings.

  • May be assigned to represent JM Murray as a representative on local and regional committees..

  • Conducts self in a manner as to always contribute to maximum individual growth and in accordance with all regulations, the Code of Ethics and Company policy and procedures. Represents JM Murray and the JM Murray mission in a positive manner, treating people with respect and dignity.

  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Must be a licensed registered nurse in the State of NY, with at least one year of clinical nursing experience. Experience with nursing in developmental disabilities services is a highly desired.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Efficient use of technology and software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Databases

Highly organized, attention to detail and ability to prioritize

Flexibility to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and needs of individuals served

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Requires a valid NYS Driver's License that meets Company standards; requires proof of NYS

Insurance coverage.

Requires clearance through a Background Check process that will include, but is not limited to,

clearance through the NYS Justice Center, the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), the NYS Office of Child and Family Services, and the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Job assignments may take place indoors and outdoors and require travel to various community locations, in various environmental conditions including rain, snow and cold weather.
