The Registered Nurse Infusion Center ensures desired patient outcomes using and integrated approach. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a resource, preceptor and mentor.

Provides comprehensive patient and family education including information about treatments, medications, chemotherapy and other appropriate items, while keeping patients and families informed about all aspects of the plan of care. Works collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to provide patients and families with appropriate resources and support.

Infusion Center is open Tuesday

  • Friday 8:00 am

  • 5:30 pm. Nurses work 9 hour shifts.

No weekends. No Inova-observed holidays.

The Alexandria location, which is located one mile from Alexandria Hospital at the Mark Center, is an outpatient physician and infusion clinic whose team members work closely and expertly with our medical oncologists and advanced practitioners to serve patients with a variety of cancers and hematologic conditions. The clinic is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The infusion center is currently opened Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Infusion Center will open five days a week in the future. The clinics are closed for the seven recognized Inova holidays and there are no on-call requirements and no weekend requirements.

As an Infusion Center Registered Nurse, you will communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others while having respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines. To help achieve our mission, you will use an integrated approach toward achieving desired patient outcomes while ensuring improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in lifelong learning.

Providing direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a resource, preceptor and mentor is of vital importance. Your leadership skills in decision making and problem solving are essential. Your ability to provide comprehensive patient and family education including information about treatments, medications, chemotherapy and other appropriate items, while keeping patients and families informed about all aspects of the plan of care, is required. Working with members of the healthcare team to provide patients and families with appropriate resources and support is expected.

Requirements

BSN - highly preferred. If ADN must obtain BSN within 2 years of hire.

A minimum of one year of infusion nursing experience.

Basic Life Support

  • American Heart Association

Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification (or must obtain within two years from date of hire).

Obtain the chemo card within the first three months of hire--- chemotherapy card from either the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) or the Association of Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurses (APHON)

Licensed as an RN or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an RN.
